Just wondering if anyone has ANY hiccup remedies. I had a few foot twitches around 10:50ish and have been hiccuping like crazy since! thats been and hour now! its not funny it hurts so bad, makes me cough and feels like i cant breathe as much as I'd like to be. its every 2 breaths.

When partner gets the hiccups, I get him to regulate his breathing. He slowly breathes in for a count of 6 (not into just your chest, but stick out your belly too, like how kids breathe), hold for one count, and then out slowly for a count of 6 and hold for one count.

It usually works for him, because I know some of what he experiences has to do with poor/shallow breathing. I don't know if it will work for you, but it's worth a try.

One thing that always works for me is drinking water through a straw while holding your nose shut.
It sounds strange but it works.

I tried the breathing thing, but the hiccups come in the middle of breathes in and breaths out....
wah....

now to find a straw...

are these a by-product of a myoclonic? or are these the myoclonics?

but I am still workin on my computer skills and this forum.I keep accidentally erasing my messages and sending wrong ones.you will have to put up with me for a bit sorry.

Ohhh.. Rae.... I HATE hiccups. It stinks that you've got them.

Well, eating various things sometimes works:
- a tablespoon of peanut butter all at once
- a teaspoon of sugar (obviously inappropriate for low glycemic, etc. diets)

Guzzling a 16 oz glass of water with no pauses for breaths works for some.

This one I think is maybe not advised for a person with seizures: Take the biggest breath possible until your lungs are ready to burst and hold it until you can't any more. Even if you hiccup while you do it. Exhale fast and refill your lungs to capacity, repeat at least 3 times.

My neice swears by this one: burp. not a little burb - big roaring burp after burp. Soda water a prerequisite. I can't burp on command so I can't comment on the effectiveness of this one.

I do deep breathing. Exhale until all air is out (and then some) very very slowly. Inhale again slowing and fill up the lungs even more than you think possible.

For me I have to be somewhere I will not be distracted. I need to concentrate zen-like on the breathing and within about 10 inhales/exhales I usually have relief.

Think about relaxing the diaphragm.
