Somebody asked if I was nervous about it. Not sure how I can be nervous as I don't know enough about the testing to be worried or concerned of how it will go. All they told me was that it would last from 9am until 4pm. So I guess I'll expect a long day.

The tests are just all sorts of memory and recall exercises. I won't give you any tips (I don't want to skew the results!) except to say that it's really meant to be helpful and you should feel free to ask the neuropsych any questions while you are there. My eval only ran about two hours, but your doc may have a different protocol. Good luck and keep us posted!

Depending on what the nature of the memory recall is or what some of the exercises/scenarios are then it could make for an interesting day. Some days or some types of information just seem to click/latch on easy and other days give me more than five minutes and its gone for good.

That is awesome, gnault. Please post an update of how it goes. I am really interested in your results. My family and I are moving to another state soon. So, it will probably be a couple of months before I have mine. Wishing you helpful results!!

I am really interested too!

To me, its not the need to remember everything, but to remember the important things. Everything else is in my words, "useless Jeopardy information" That's something, that i do not see the need to remember, since i can always look it up in the computer.

But getting back to the point, sometimes medicines can also cause people to not be able to remember words. I get that once in a while, and i turn it into a game, name the word i'm trying to think of (I bet there is a hollywood game out there like that) . I give the clues to the the person i'm talking to tries to come up with it.

I think playing a musical instrument and learning in general is a good way of improving memory. I've started to play the piano 3 yrs ago and while it looks easy when one sees a professional do it, it's hard as hell. Not only is it physically tiring, but it's also a mental form of exercising ones memory.

You're right about meds causing 'word-loss' issues. Topamax is well known for this side effect. I often have times when I know what I want to say--and can see it in my mind, as if its written on paper, but my mind & mouth can't connect.

:agree:

I was taking Topamax for two years until last week. It was losing its effectiveness and it was causing a lot of language issues (dyslexia and episodic aphasia in my case) so I switched meds.

It seems that if it's something that was really funny or that I love I'll seem to remember it. But if it's just something general or that I didn't really like then it's gone.

I lost about 10 years of memory of things that happened before my first seizure when I was diagnosed with epilepsy. I didn't even know who the guy I was with at the time that I'd been dating for 2 years. But there's a job that I'd worked at about 5 years before I was diagnosed that I loved. I know I could go back there and after a few days I'd probably have no problem working there again.

My husband gets mad because I that can remember 4 years ago when he thought he saw a UFO but I can't remember something that happened 4 days ago!
