I have to have an eeg next week wed and was wondering how long isit? My neurologist is having me get this cuz he don't know if my seizures are coming back or not. I have another question can seizures go away for years and then just come back all of sudden?

It lasts about an hour. The actual test part is pretty quick, but it takes time for the technician to tape on the sensors at the beginning and remove them at the end.

And yes, unfortunately seizures can come back. It's not entirely clear why -- perhaps changes in our brains and bodies due to growth/aging, as well as changes in the ways we react to our environments.

I haven't told my mom that this has been goin on cuz I don't want her worrying. I guess I trained my kids enough on wen to call 911 and wat to do after that if the dad isn't round.

Hi Momof5kids,

I just had a quick look at your profile & it looks like it is similar to my story.

I had epilepsy as a baby, took tonic clonics from 9 months until I was about 2 or 3. I was also taken of meds when I was 7.
I went 21 years seizure until May 2002 when I was 24 I started taking seizures again. When my seizures returned I mainly had simple partial (auras) & complex partial seizures.

When my seizures returned the MRIs showed up scarring on my left temporal lobe, the specialists I've seen all believe that the scarring was most likely caused by the tonic clonics I had as a baby but no one knows why I was able to go so long seizure free. Epilepsy is definitely a mystery at times & as I often say we never know when it will rear it's ugly head.

I haven't told my mom that this has been going on cuz I don't want her worrying.
Maybe it might be a good idea to tell your Mum so she is aware of what's going on. I can understand that you don't want to worry her Mum but I've learnt over the years that a Mum will always worry about their children, it just shows they are a loving caring parent.

I had my MRI two weeks ago and my neruologist said that it was clean. So he said that given my history he doesn't doubt that I had a seizure a few weeks ago, and after my eeg he will about what to do then. Thanks. I'm goin to tell her wen the resuts come back. How long does it take to come back, cuz I really need to know so I can save some money just in case they put me back on medication.

Technically, the results are ready immediately after the test itself. But in practice, there's usually a time lag for the neurologist to interpret them as well as a tim lag based on the doc's appointment schedule. Best to ask your neuro for what timeline to expect.
