Hello All,

My husband has juvenille myoclonic epilespy with grand mal seizures, diagnosed when he was a teen. He was well controlled on medication for years, then in 2005 he started to have seizures daily. It has been a long journey and many medications later he is doing better. As of late he averages a seizure every 2-3 months. However, this coming Sunday will be his 6 month seizure free anniversary. First time in 7 years. :woot:

I want to do something special to celebrate, and I'd like it to be a surprise (I don't think he realizes the date). Any suggestions? I am thinking of going out for chinese food (as he always craves chinese after a seizure, but hasn't had it much lately), but wanna do something in addition...

That sounds like a great idea, Chinese is great. If you dont think thats the best idea think about anything else he enjoys. Anything in particular he would like to do?

A day out somewhere etc

I honestly can't think of much to do. We have a one year old, so that limits us as well. And he is dealing with siatica.

If his fave meal is Chinese then I think he would enjoy it :) I for one would be really happy if my parents surprised me with chinese!

Big congratulations on approaching 6 months seizure freedom!! Marvelous...

I don’t know, Chinese uses lots of flavor enhancers. Sorry to sound negative, we loved it too, now no-no in our house now. But my Son craves any food in sight after a T/C seizure, big and greasy top of his list.

Any hobby he has not done for long time?

Hi richash,
Welcome to CWE.
I don't have any suggestions but just wanted to congratulate your husband for reaching 6 month seizure free. I hope things continue to go well for him.

there are plenty of things he's interested in, but most are pretty involved things he wants to take a class on (like soapmaking, for example). due to my lack of planning, I didn't schedule anything in time :/

Congratulations! One caution about Chinese food is that you might want to avoid places that cook with MSG -- MSG can be a seizure trigger... As for a post-dinner activity: What kinds of things -- silly or serious -- do you find entertaining? Bowling? Ice skating? Swing dancing? (oops just read about the sciatica, that may rule out some stuff). A comedy or improv club? A Battlestar Galactica marathon on TV? His-and-her massages? Can you book time at a place with a hot-tub?
