Hi all,

I get migraines and can't quite figure out what to take to lessen the symptoms. Acetaminophen doesn't work and I'm afraid to take Excedrin for Migraines because of the caffeine in it. The first time I took a medicine with caffeine was a few years ago and I remember the symptoms getting worse. I'm sure my neuro could prescribe something, but I'm wondering if there's something over-the counter that anyone else has used.

Thank you.

Not sure about treating symptoms after they start. One CWE member found that supplementing with ionic magnesium prevented her migraines from developing in the first place.

Hi In1,

Can you take Aleve that has been helpful to me when I have a migraine also try putting cold water on your face and the back of your neck a few times a day that helps calm the neurons down in your brain I know it sounds weird but it may help. I know it reduces my seizures. The only other thing I can think of is taking vitamin B12 1000 mcg. once a day.
I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue

Exactly. I take this stuff:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Magnesium-Threonate-Patented-Magtein-Supplement/dp/B011M06YFG/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1459719728&sr=1-2&keywords=magtein"]Amazon.com: Magnesium Threonate, Patented Original Magtein Supplement - From MIT Inventors to Clear Brain Fog, Support Sleep Quality, Focus and Memory - (2,042 Mg) Magnesium L-threonate - 30 day supply- Veggie Capsules - 60 count: Health & Personal Care@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51MVUkuYVaL.@@AMEPARAM@@51MVUkuYVaL[/ame]
and it really helps with sleep plus my migraines are gone too. Nice side effect. :)

I have been using this brand of magnesium threonate for about6 - 9 months and while it does not help my headaches or improve my brain function it does help with muscle cramps and spasms.

I did not buy it for it's "Mind" improving qualities, I just wanted a magnesium supplement with high bioavailability and threonate is the highest I could find.

***Weird how it added the picture and amazon advertisement to my link.***

I went to a headache dr (not sure what they are technically called) and tried so many different meds for migraines. Nothing I was given even eased the pain a little. The only thing that I found that helps for me is to put a bag of ice on my forehead, put my headphones in and listen to music and lay in a completely dark room and hopefully fall asleep. I'll usually wake up in a few hours and still have the headache but it won't be as bad.

Just what I do.sadly I think that all you can do.the house could be on fire not sure I be any good if had migraine.I even been taken off tube train by stretcher to hospital when I just want be home in bed.Even had oxycodine full strength and not touch it.
I think it one most disabling thing there is yet people say just head ache they should try migraine they think twice before say that.
Sometimes I make it worse by dreading it will happen when something important happening...I on magnesium started taking it fe weeks back touch wood not had one

I don't have much more to offer as far as pain relief goes, but have you spoken to your neurologist about migraine prophylactic medication? Two of the anti-seizure medications that can reduce the frequency of migraines are valproic acid and topiramate, but there are other medications that are not seizure medications that reduce the frequency of migraines as well. Like anything, there is some trial and error to find the one that works the best.

Have to second magnesium--I started taking it regularly, and stopped having ~5 migraines a month (daily during my cycle). When I do have one, an ice pack at the base of the back of my head helps.

In my life, i've rarely ever had a migraine, or headaches. Only one time i had migraines and that was before they found my baseball type brain tumor. I had them for 6 months before my surgery, normally early in the mornings. I went to my GP doc and he said to take alive or some other type otc meds. The migraines happened like every 3 days. Always in the mornings. and sometimes they were accompanied by a lightening bolt that went slowly from one side of my vision to the other. Once they took my tumor out, i was back to my normal self, with no migraines.

I just want to say that if one has migraines out of the blue and having them regularly, ask to have a ct or mri to rule out a tumor. Hopefully it's not a tumor and some else.

Cheers,

:piano: :pop:
