Since those seizures I had almost two weeks ago, my teeth have been killing me! I noticed it after the seizures had happened and as the days went by, its just gotten worse. I thought maybe something was up with a tooth problem, so I went to the dentist today. He took some xrays, did some testing, and said all my teeth come back fine. No cavities, cracks, infections. He said the cause is from grinding my teeth. I told him about having epilepsy and my last seizures I had, and how I noticed my jaw was hurting the day after, and since then its just got worse. He said to try a night gaurd. But my mom is scared that if I have a night gaurd in my mouth and have a seizure at night, it could go in the back of my throat and cause me choke to death.

I just dont know what to do to help with not grinding. Ive been keeping up on pain relief everyday, and to my knowledge I havnt had any other seizures besides almost two weeks ago. It was on thursday night, at midnight, so technically it was on January 27th.

Im just hoping to find relief of this. I havnt had this problem before with seizures, since they have been under control with the keppra and carbatrol combo for years.

If you can't have a night guard, I'm not sure what to do. Would a change in pillows help? Or a slight change in position? My dentist also said to make sure I'm not sleeping on my side with my hands curled up under my chin. I guess a lot of people sleep that way. It makes you clench your teeth.

I love sleeping on my side. Thats almost always how I sleep. Ive caught myself on the mornings curled up that way with my hands under my chin. But one thing I was thinking about was back in November when I had those seizures during the time I was taking the Hydroco medication for the Bronchitis I had, the ER did some blood work and said my magnesium was alittle on the low side. I just googled low magnesium and grinding teeth and it comes up with tons of links that say low magnesium causes people to grind their teeth!

I just sent in a release form to get those lab results sent to me. I really want to get a copy of it, so I can send it to my neurologist to make sure its ok. That was back in November though, almost three months ago. Back then my magnesium level was 1.6 and I didnt have a problem with grinding my teeth then. Gosh I really hope this isnt a sign that my magnesium has gotten lower to cause the grinding to occur.

Magnesium plays a role in all kinds of muscle stuff. When magnesium levels are subpar, your muscles are more likely to cramp or twitch or clench or spasm or tense up, or just plain feel tired or sore. Low magnesium can also affect your blood pressure (making it higher) and your mood (making it lower). It can cause headaches and seizures, mess with your appetite, etc., etc. So it's worth paying attention to. Some meds (like antibiotics) can interact with magnesium, and physical stresses (like trauma or illness) can contribute to a deficiency.

Im thinking of calling my Primary care dr or even my neurologist to see if they can order a lab work for seeing where my magnesium level is. I hope it doesnt take long to get the lab results that were taken back in November at the ER. I havnt taken any antibiotics. I normally would have scheduled an appointment with my primary care dr about a month ago when all that stuff started with my chest and ears. I had alot of mucus I was coughing up and my left ear was killing me. But any other time I had this happen before, any time I would go into the drs, they would send me home after paying a co-pay to tell me to use over the counter stuff. So I figured they would probably tell me the same thing and why waste paying a $25 copay for them to say the same thing to me.

I clench on to my mouthguard so I just can't win lol. Must try the magnesium...along with the fish oil, multi-vitamin, immune support and iron. I need to take all these vitamins into the pharmacist and make sure i'm not over dosing!! A stronger multi might be a better option me thinks!
