I dont know if I want Disability..... : /

Ok, So I signed up for Disability, and I was denied.
The said I had was over the resource limit ?
I'm not quit sure what that means.......I think it means that I had too much money in my bank account to reserve disability. My dad said that I should hire a attorney....But I don't really want to. Although I believe that epilepsy might be with me for quit a while.....Idk if I want disability for it.....I does sound like a good idea. To receive checks every month any not worry about going to work or getting fired, paying for your insurance/ rent or that sort of stuff.....But idk...I want to worry about that sort of stuff. ...I feel like if just received checks every month...I might forget about being inspired. : / I'm not meaning anything bad by this, but i feel like if I received checks every month, that I'd feel like I'd just be receiving them for being disabled. I really hate that word...*disabled* >.<
Btw I want to rip up this notice of disappoved claim. But I know my dad needs help with the bills.... :' (

I have been reading your posts on disability, so I hope you don't mind my input and don't tank anything I say as being critical. Just trying to make a suggestion.

It sounds like you have the resources to get by for the time being. Could you try to help out at home and get by going to school the way you do? Get to a point where you have enough security in your bank account in case of an emergency before you move out on your own? I don't know how old you are or where you are, but take it slow. You are at a time in your life where a bad decision could be drastic.

I was able to move out because my wife (girlfriend at the time) was able to be that security in case I had a problem. Also, I could get myself around and that made life much easier.

One thing I can say is that I would much rather see my tax money going to someone with disability rather than people that won't try to go find a job because they don't feel like it.

I use to get SSI long ago and now I get SSDI Social security disability and I'm with you you AthenaI don't like the word disabled everyone has something they can't do.
There are things I can to that people that are so called"can't do" I hate that word normal I consisider nomal everyone being alike is whant this world wants,we sredon't want that.

Many people who would like to attend college or university are unable to because of the added financial burden of living away from home if there are no post-high school learning centers around.
You could consider getting a part time job, or job where you can work from home, to help your father with the bills. Become a dog walker for those who live in apartments, for example, or try to earn money by using a skill or interest you have. For example a young college student I know earned $500 in just two months of helping neighbors with gardening and yard work on weekends. Also, volunteering is a great way to get your foot in the door somewhere and this can lead to a paid position.
Sperlo is right - disability is not to help someone just because they manage to qualify. It is for people who are medically unfit for any kind of work and have no other means of financial support.

Thanks. Yes I understand What you mean. I don't need Disability. Because I'm not exactly Disabled, and there's many people out there who are truly in need or it. I wish my family would understand this. Congradulations on your marriage, and I will take it slow until I move out. I do hope to save as much as possible. I hope!!!! I wish I had a way of transportation, thats one of main reasons that I will be moving ( public transportation ).

V.V I'm a filer for my sister on the weekends and I volenteer at this "adopt a senior program" at my nursing home". I'm not medically unfit for any kind of work, although for some reason my sisters believe I am. Joking. I want to get a job. I want to apply for jobs. Ive applied for home depot and publix.
I want to save up money for a year, maybe two years in my saving account, maybe get a safe. And then move to a city that has public transportation. Go to school to become a nurse practitioner that specializes in neurology and then maybe become a nuerologist later...of if nursing doest work out become a PTA. : P
My sisters all are telling me to get disability but i believe that I can survive on my own if I plan ahead, safe up, and lead how to do things such as become a PTA or PA or RN or Nuerolorgist doctor. idek the list is endlest as long as i start as soon as possible. My dad is just worried. I know that. Because of my epilepsy. He wouldnt be this worried If I never had epilepsy....But I do so I have to face it. So its w/e. I need to tell him, that I cant live with this constant saftey net. I need to make my own saftey net. Ifs not right, because I'm fully capable of working.

Thank you Kristen, I enjoy taking control of my life. Having a five year plan. Everything like that. I have to stay focused or else I'll forget, I'm already 19, so I should take control of life and at least enjoy it a little lol. I like looking towards the future. I even want to learn the piano.

My family believes that I should get disability. Although I would be a good opportunity for me I think I am not disabled in anyway. I'm going to school in the fall and will be applying for financial aid. I'm going to go to work, I applied for home depot, Publix, and will apply for Walgreens, and Some other places until I get a job. I did apply for disability and they said I was denied. Because I had sufficient resources.
My father said that I can apply again later for disability. I have epilepsy, and that is why my father thinks that I should have disability. Although he believes that I should recieve it, I do not. This is because stictly I am not disabled. he said so himself, and so did my mother. I can go to work, and recieve checks for working, intead of disability checks. I volunteer at "adopt a senior programs".
I work for my sister by filing her paper work.
I even feed and walk my sisters dog ( for free because I'm just that nice )
Any ways, MY HOPES IN NEXT FIVE YEARS ____
1. to not recieve disability
2.get a job
3.go to college
4.figure out my career (PTA, RN, Neurologist)
5.learn to play the piano
6. move out
7. save money!!!!!! At least $100 every month.
8. If I can drive, become seizure free for six months, learn to drive!
9. Fall in love
10. Learn something new each year.
11. Figure out why I am not disabled,
12. Save money for medication $ 160 + insurance ever two months $200 = $360
-500 for apt rent if i were to move

My family wants me to get disability so I can
1. get me through college w/out worring about a job.
2. my dad thinks my medicine slows me down a bit?
3. Pay some of the family bills..
4. not have stress of any bills for a few years.
but thats why i dissagree, i should get used to it now. I need to start myself off early, I already pay my insurance, presciption co-pay. ($260)
Getting a job is my only answer atm. What do you guys think?

All I can say is that neither decision is permanent--whether you go for disability or for your (very ambitious) list, you can always reassess three months or three years down the line. It's not a commitment, it's just which road you prefer to take right now. And I also have to advise, after many years of making lists such as yours, it's great practice to put all of it down, but it's also great practice to be happy with yourself if you only manage to achieve 1% of that list. I guess my way is to go hard on myself with the goal setting and kind on myself with the results.
