At least anxiety is the best description I can think of. There is no loss of consciousness or jerky physical movements. Can this be a simple partial seizure? I honestly can't tell what it is.

Yes, in fact they can be mistaken. They were with me. They were scary. I finally went into my Dr. and they said that they were anxiety attacks but it was really wierd and scary. I went back one of the other Dr.s helped me , I had been more stressed out and I had been having them every few seconds. He asked me why I hadn't been in there before. I was monitored right there. I notice now I get them when I am extremely stressed out. And my lorazepam is the only thing that can stop them.Get it checked.

Sounds like a simple partial seizure to me. I get these before a complex partial seizure as well called an aura. An aura is just a simple partial seizure. Some people never progress to complex partial seizure after a simple partial and some do. Some people just have simple partial seizures and that is it. A lot of dr.'s think this is anxiety attacks and it is not. It is seizures. Glad you are learning. I have learned a lot from this forum as well.

They are seizures. I thought mine were panic attacts they scared me to death. But the Dr found out what they were by monotoring me. Simple Partials. And you can get them you can get them when you are more stressed out. They have a new drug out for that. Can't think of the name of it but my doc is going to see me in six weeks.I told him that I wanted to think about it.There is help.Teresa

I wanted to reply to this thread because yesterday I had a similar sort of weird/anxious feeling yesterday. It did sort of feel like anxiety, my chest sort of felt tight, I felt a little nauseated and I had a 'something isn't right' feeling, similar to the ones I've had before the tonic-clonic seizures I've had but not as bad. It had also happened earlier that day as well. The reason it confused me a little is because there wasn't really anything I was anxious about at the time, so I didn't really see why I would be getting panicky. Also, the 'something isn't right' stood out to me.

Can these actually be seizures/auras? I didn't know this. Could someone please give me some more information about simple partial seizures and auras? How long do they normally last for? If you get them, could you please help me to understand what they can feel like?

Sorry to barge in on this thread, but it got me thinking.

I ended up having two partial complex seizures on the weekend. I think I had one on my sleep Saturday night and then "just got up and went back to bed" Sunday morning. I upped my Tegretol XR to 1400mg/day. I used to take this much anyhow. Once I did that, the seizures stopped, including the auras. I don't understand why the auras started happening though. I have been taking 1200mg/day of Tegretol XR and 400mg/day of Lamictal for at least 6 months. The only thing I can think of is it might have been my blood sugar level. I was drinking Jamba Juice drinks and wasn't working out recently because of being sick. I think my blood sugar wasn't being regulated as well because I couldn't work out for two weeks.

Well you know I have some tightening of the chest to but I went to the doctor and every thing was fine,I ended up going to a gastrointernologist. It sounds like reflux to me.Mostly because it has happenned when you are lying down. But I could be wrong. But that is what it turned out for me. Go to your regular doc and talk to him about it.It could be either or - but the second one is better. really. let me know what you decide to do ok?Teresa

It sure can be a simple partial seizure. A common aura is a feeling of impending doom. Usually it doesn't have any physical symptoms, just the emotion/feeling, but I've read posts from people in here who have both emotional and physical. An aura is a simple partial seizure, just a "smaller" one.

A side effect of many of our meds is also anxiety. People with Epilepsy also have a higher rate of anxiety.

Anxiety disorders are also more prevalent in patients with epilepsy: rates are estimated at 2.5–6.5% in the general population [6] compared with 15–25% in <those with epilepsy>.

With my seizures I had back in March, It started out with a feeling of confusion, followed my an overwhelming feeling of sadness. I just knew something was going to happen. As Im feeling all of this this, My left leg and hand start to go numb, or tingly feeling. the feeling started to spread to my upper body, and affect my face, where it felt like a million little needles poking me everywhere. As it worked its way up, my head started to turn to my right, my body stiffened, and I started to have jerking motions on my right side of my body. The whole time I can hear what people are saying, but it was hard to respond back when my body was out of control. The seizures lasted for a minute or two. after the jerking would stop, the stiffness would end, and my head would feel "free" again. I could move around, but my whole body felt so stiff and hurt due to stiffening up the whole time during the seizure. I remember on the fourth day of my VEEG, that morning I had a big one where I blacked out for alittle bit. It was then that they gave me ativan in my IV and it helped prevent more coming. Since then, those are the kind of seizures Ive been experiencing. I was use to having complex partials and grand mals in my youth days. I see my dr August 31st! I cant wait to hear his opinions on how things are going for me!
