Just needing some advice. This morning I feel like I've been bashed in the head with a brick and thrown under a train, I had 2 seizures last night and I had a few auras which never eventuated in an actual seizure. I had another one a few days ago. In Australia we're going through a heat wave at the moment it forecast to get to 38 degrees Celsius here today. I think the combination of the heat and anxiety about getting married on Saturday is causing the seizures. I can't really get into see a neurologist, there is a 3 month wait for an appointment and all the GPs I've seen don't seem to know a lot about Epilepsy. Just wondering if people think it would be okay to temporarily increase my own dosage and take an extra tablet? I'm a bit hesitant about messing with my own medication, but I also really don't want to have more seizures.

Crunchy Frog -
Sorry to hear about the seizures. Your seizures may be from the anxiety & stress about your upcoming wedding & this hot weather can't help.
I am sure it is usually a good idea to speak to your dr or neurologist 1st before altering your meds. Is there anyway you could ring your neurologists office & speak to the neurologist over the phone?

Good luck with your wedding on Saturday, I hope the weather is kind to you & a little cooler for you on your special day :).

The neurologist is on holidays I'll make a appointment with her when she gets back but, that is after the wedding. I really wouldn't normally want to increase my own medication, I might go see my GP. Usually when I've asked him anything Epilepsy related he looks at me blankly..... But, at least I've spoken to someone, I don't know,do you think I could ask him for something for anxiety?
It's forecast to be 36, the church doesn't have air conditioning but, at least the reception will. I went in there on Friday and it was lovely and cool :)

I would hold off on increasing your regular meds until you get a chance to discuss it with your neuro. But you might ask your GP about getting an short-term prescription for ativan or lorazepam to use on an "emergency" basis.

I would call your neurologist office and ask to speak with your neurologists nurse. They are able to answer questions regarding your meds or can get ahold of your doctor easier than you calling to speak to them. I myself take tegretol XR and have upped the dosage myself, but I have also been on it since I was 10 (25 now) so when I see my lab work ups and see my levels are low I normally up it myself. I have also upped it when I am really stressed out or I will take an extra pill here or there if I feel an aura or a seizure coming on. I would definitely call your neurologists office first and speak with the nurse, that way you can get some sort of answer.

Good luck and congrats on the wedding!

Kate
