The Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and the Treasury are inviting public comments through a Request for Information (RFI) regarding issues under the Wellstone-Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008.
The RFI process is a method by which the federal agencies, who are charged with writing the specifics of a law that has been passed, obtain the necessary information for writing the specific rules of the law (how the law will be implemented, based on legislative intent). The Wellstone Parity Act says that insurance coverage for mental health treatment must be in parity with that for other medical diagnoses, procedures, and treatments. The APA has provided some good information in a Q&A format.
Time is of the essence so we recommend submitting your comments electronically using this portal. Comments must be submitted on or before May 28, 2009.
Please read this sample letter offering support of parity (coverage) for neurofeedback as a treatment for AD/HD. Please consider writing your own letter, detailing your experience with biofeedback and/or neurofeedback treatments and coverage for specific mental health-related disorders in your area of expertise. We recommend highlighting proven biofeedback and neurofeedback treatment efficacy for disorders such as AD/HD, anxiety, and headaches.
