My neurologist has suggested this in order to locate the exact area where my seizures are originating. Have any of you had this done or are considering it?
Doing some research, I happened to come across a picture of what it looks like. That completely freaked me out. My skull open, brain exposed, and EEG pads placed directly on it? That makes me extremely nervous, to say the least
For anyone who has had it, strange question, but how do you not know what is going on during the surgery? Your brain is not "stopped" during it so you may be dreaming. What is it like?

Hi Navy Veteran,
I have just recently (July & August) had both depth electrodes and grid electrodes implanted for VEEG monitoring. There was no pain nor any awareness of what was happening during the surgeries (I had one surgery just for the insertion of the depth electrodes and another for the placement of the grid). For me it all worked out quite well. They were able to exactly locate the origin of the seizures (mine are due to a traumatic brain injury), eliminate the false lateralizations, and remove the portion of the temporal lobe that was the source.
All told, it was relatively painless (headaches after the resection, none from electrode placements), and I'd do it all over again. I was like you, quite nervous, and my wife was terrified, but it was worth it.

Good luck with your decision...
