My first post so I'll try to keep it short (and entertaining)

I have had weird experiences most of my life. well, not weird for me. annoying at time but not the type of thing you mention to others as you learn very quickly. Saying "someone isn't who they are" isn't very conductive to be considered normal amongst others. The most common problem I had you see was that I would stop recognising someone, sometime in the middle of a conversation.

Anywho, time flew and other problems added like the jamais vu, lost time and dog headed people (don't ask) and finaly I went to the doctor after it started to impact my life (I should note I had until then been married and gainfully employed).

I was diagnosed schizophrenic and put on various and increasing amount of anti-psychotics but to no avail. When the doctor suggested we tried electroshock therapy (yes, I know its not as bad as in the movies but still) I went for a second opinion.

This doctor had this brilliant idea to actualy test me and lo and behold, it was discovered that I wasn't schizophrenic after all but had temporal lobe epilepsy. No more anti-psychotics, no more zombie state.

So now I'm on anti-seizures (topamax+epilim) and apart from being bloody tired all the time, I'm all right.

Hello MJSTG,

Wow, that was a rough ride.

Over lunch, as my Son paused to say - wow, look at that ball go and he was aware and I could see him looking at it.so, yes the brain will trick alright.

That’s great news, your seizures are hopefully well controlled with your E meds and the horrible anti-psychotics are a thing of the past (know they are horrible, sister bi-polar).

You could always look to adding safe supplements that may help with your energy levels. No harm in getting blood work done to make sure you are not low in vitamins and minerals.

all the best

Hi mjstg, welcome to CWE! And my condolences for the long painful journey to diagnosis. I wish your story were uncommon, but it seems all too familiar for folks with seizure disorders, particularly temporal lobe epilepsy. I hope things get better for you from here on out.

Best,
Nakamova

My daughter was almost sent down that path, and I fought the system. Luckily she was young enough for me to have my say.

Glad that you were able to figure it out. I hope your story will help others in the same situation.

Welcome
