I noticed the other day when I was intensely concentrating on a puzzle, that I began having an involuntary movement and/or a temporary loss of consciousness.

I've noticed this when playing puzzle games like Tetris, or putting together a shelving unit, or basically anytime when I have to concentrate.

It is very annoying, and I was wondering if anyone else experiences this, and what I can do about it.

Hmmmmm

what type of involuntary movements?? Like a jerk? Or head turns? Or what???

A slight jerk, it is hard to explain, sometimes it is a jerk, or a slight loss of consciousness, or my depth perception starts going out of whack.

Hi Jag,

I have involuntary movements as well. Mine can be a head turn, head rotation, odd mouth movements with loss of conscienceness. For about two years my doctors thought I had a movement disorder but this is not the case.

I do know what you are talking about and yes, it is very hard to explain to people especially because you are sometimes not aware of doing these things. I have doctors that still give me a weird look when I try to explain this to them. Most do not understand or at least the ones I have encountered. My neurologist that I have now understands movement disorders and he told me that this is not it. I do understand it is frustrating try to explain someone something that you do not completely understand yourself. Have you tried video recording the movements or anything? Also if you can bring someone to the doctor that has seen it that is very helpful as well. Trust me, you are not alone and anytime you need to talk about this you are welcome to private message me. Take care.

Oh yeah, mine get worse when I am watching T.V. but they happen all the time. I think it is some sort of absence seizure. I am now on a medication but after reading about it, it doesn't work on absence seizures. My doctor is suppose to call me today and I will let him know. I didn't realize I was having all sorts of seizures. Really stinks.

I really had this problem on Keppra, but I am off seizure meds and still have the jerks, noises, head moves back and forth with a shiver of the body. This happens quite often.:twocents:

The doctors thought the reason for my involuntary movements was the meds I was on as well. They even took me off of the Topamax when I was on it. My family doctor freaked and ordered me off, which only made me worse. Turns out that was not the case and now my neuro is trying to sort out the whole mess. All of this mess started when another neuro I had before decided to retire without telling his patients. I don't think I would have been that bad off if he didn't do this. Sometimes doctors can cause a whole lot more harm than what we initially see them for.

It is often blamed on meds but you may want to read up on reflex seizures.

or a myclonic jerk. my head jerks to the left or my knee jerks
I have them to, but only under stress or angry about something. it is my big tell so I dont play poker

good idea court! LOL or tell them that the jerking means you are bluffing..... or have a wonderful hand that will beat them all.... this could be fun!:ponder:

Court, I think you have hit the nail on the head. I was just reading about Myoclonic seizures and was going to post this suggestion. It sounds just like it since I too experience it. As a matter of fact I have been wondering why my head will force to the side and my neck will pop really loud. These kinds of seizures happen all the time with me and I am lucky if I have a break from them for a day or so. It hurts so bad that it causes a headache for days, it also makes my neck sore. My jaw does this as well but it effects both sides of my body, if that makes any sense at all. They last for brief seconds but can happen multiple times per day. My neuro couldn't really understand this when I tried to explain this to him but my husband says that I do not explain things well anyway so that maybe my fault but how can you explain something when you don't understand or can't remember it anyway. I video taped it but he didn't want to review it. I think I will try to get him to look at this again on video and see what he says. I will suggest this to him and see what happens. When reading about this it describes the jerks to a T.

My gosh I have explained this to every doctor I encounter and no one could tell me what is wrong and I come here and everything pieces together. Funny how that happens.

they are indeed myoclonic seizures
i get them ALL the time, i find math and my accounting course extremely hard to manage at the moment with them :(

i also get what feels like absence seizures near tvs, but i know they're just bad jerks

i hope you get this sorted :(!

although, tam bam, i've had myoclonic epilepsy for two years and never experience neck pains :O my jaw does click and hurts but i think thats a different problem :P i hope you can get an explanation for that one soon though!

I also get these kind of jerks while concentrating on a program logic deeply. I am a web developer and I need proper concentration while working. I have tonic clonic seizure, and I get these in morning, if i dont take proper sleep and if previous day was exhausting.
But Recently, from 7-8 months I am getting these jerks while concentrating. These jerks are hard to explain, it mostly last for 2 seconds (or maybe i just feel so), after that for like 30 sec or so I have to rethink what I was doing. Initially I thought its happening because I was not taking proper sleep. But after few months I was having these on regular basis.
When I get this kind of jerk, I stop concentrating , then go out for few minutes, while I am out I breathe heavily for 5 minutes or so to supply good oxygen to my body and brain. And after that I feel good, and on that day I dont get any jerks.
and you know, when I exercise daily, These jerks stops completely. Maybe bcoz I give proper amount of oxygen to brain while exercising in the morning.
I hope this helps. :)
