When I was first diagnosed with e I thought my world came to an end I lost my job and car all gone.
The doctor told me a story I don't know if it true or not I wonder if others were told this.
a man had small tick in his little finger it only happened about once a year lasting for seconds the thing is he was neurosurgeon his eeg showed he had e even then it was not certain because he had several egg and the others were normal
Because of his job he had to give up incase his little finger for two seconds had little tic could mean death of someone. So I guess e at it most mild can change your life for ever

If this guy were a NEUROSURGEON and he had tics every year, then that is one thing. Not knowing if it could happen while performing surgery on someone's brain, I wouldn't want that person operating on MY brain! I've NEVER heard that story.
But I've heard of the neurosurgeon from Harvard who had "near death" experience and wrote about it. It's a book titled"Proof of Heaven".

jeeze did he have nde when operating. This guy been top Nuro surgeon..I was never sure if it was true or the doctor was trying pull me together when he told me I had e

Could be one or the other or both. The point he was trying to make is, yes your life changes when you get E, but that doesn't have to be the end of the world.

I had feeling that could been it.Most people who have odd small tic in little finger proberly not even see doctor.e do things to people his was at its total mildest but ruined his great career but not stopped him being doctor he just deviated from surgery still had good career.
With me I knew something serious was the matter and I had panic attacks just before fit was going to happened therefore medic thought I was loco until I saw psycarist who did egg and Mir he called me in and said got good news and bad new good news you not mad bad news you got e and never want see you in mental hospital again you under nurologist now..believe me I wanted to sue first lot of docs because my e was obvious to all.Thats when he told me that story

That story is IMO a sad way to compare changes in ones life on such a simple level. Okay so he can't operate but he can do everything else that he was trained for and probably make the same salary......boo hoo.
If I had to compare being diagnosed with Epilepsy and all that has happened to my life since then. It is like having a child and raising them. Everyday is just a bit different, there are ups and downs, every so often you look back and say how did we get here, and there is almost never a steady state that lasts long enough. Even when the child grows up they are never gone and the relationship is always changing.
My Epilepsy is an ever changing 'relationship' with ups and downs.

Anyway at least we all have a massive support community here with CWE to help on the journey.

I think he meant that doc was giving up more than me(debate able)and things are relative

Up, down and around we go ..where we stop nobody knows.
We all have different situations different challenges.

13 yrs ago I did not know about epilepsy and autism because it was irrelevant in my life, well now Í had to have a rude awakening/ learning experience its a very different life now.
:(

There is no doubt something gets sacrificed or given up but its about in the general scheme of things how crappy is it really?
