No, this is not hypnic jerk (the one anyone might get while falling asleep, often accompanied by dreams of falling / tripping sensations).
My Symptoms:
About 15 minutes into deep(unconscious?) dreamless sleep, there is a sudden SINGLE violent jolt to the body which wakes me up., I wake up confused for <3 seconds and then realise what has just happened. Feels like coming to consciousness from the deep darkness unlike waking from regular sleep.
No muscle pain/ tongue biting etc. People around can notice it as something unusual. I feel fresh again, compared to groggy feeling before nap. I always hope for this symptom on triggered days, as it is predictable, safe and I will be seizure free for the rest of the day after this symptom.
Known Trigger:
I have had this many times in my life and I can predict it well.
On days when I wake up during my seizure trigger hours (say 5am) and when I take a nap later after being awake 3 - 6 hours without a TC and feeling tired.
Question :
Is this nocturnal seizure or an alternative version of common TC ?
