I wanted to name this thread “pills and puking” but figured people wouldn’t want to see that title keep popping up.

Yesterday I spent the morning puking (I’m sure like most of the world). The sucky part was I didn’t go out drinking the night before but instead caught a stomached bug... So as I stared into the murky waters of my porcelain throne, I started to wonder, does anyone on CWE have tips for keeping pills down when everything wants to come up?

I found that slowly taking them one by one worked…. most of the time. It doesn’t help that I take 13 A.E.D. pills a day.

Good question,i think taking them one by one with little sips off water is probaly the best way.Although i find that because my tablets are slow release,im still fishing through vomit hours later if im sick. That Epilim have a right knack off hanging around.

13 pills? I'd be sick too. Seriously though, sorry you were so sick yesterday. Feel better today?

I know, right?... and that doesn’t include any vitamins or my atenolol and lisinopril (I come from a high strung family). I use to hate swallowing pills, now I can down 9 in one fellow swoop. I also use to preach how people were too quick to medicate…. my opinion hasn’t change but I don’t really have a leg to stand on, creditability wise.

Thanks for asking Cathy. I felt crappy this morning but am slowly getting better throughout the day. Yesterday I couldn’t eat anything. Today I have been able to get a few things down although their not playing nice once they get there.

If anyone’s resolution was to lose weight for the new year, I highly recommend getting this stomach bug.

im not sure how true it is ...becuase ive never tried it myself but i work in a pharmacy and i always hear that the best thing to drink when your "sick" is flat/diet coca cola... it neutralises the acid in the stomach ... apparently it has something to do with the syrup thats in coke ... but then again i dont know how true this is
but i do know loads that swear by it ....

the only thing is it has to be caffine free otherwise the caffine will excite the stomach to produce more acid and relax the osophegous (terrible spelling) and thus making you sick

would love to hear if anyone has experienced/tried this

I had a type of virus last year that was so bad I ended up staying in the hospital. I was very dizy, couldn't walk and any time I opened my eyes I started to gag and usually throw up. I'm not sure if any of my pills, I take 8 in the am and 9 in the pm, came out or not because when I'd look in what ever I was throwing up in I'd start to throw up again. I'm sure some of them did though.

If you can't keep your meds down then you might want to go to the hospital and get them through an IV. This way you are sure to get what you need.

Hope you get feeling better soon.

Glad your better,-Did you have to put your tablets " Up the other way?" To get em inside you?:roflmao:

Okay do you know where I can find it???

No seriously tho, sorry to hear friend, that sucks. But then again so does having to take 13 pills. I find for me, and a lot of friends agree too, a gingerale, not flat tho b/c the syrupy taste is a turn-off, and/or something a bit greasy. Neutralizes all the acids that are wreaking havoc. Nothing worse than burning bile ey.
I've heard the flat cola thing works too, so there you have a few ideas for next time, tho HUGS hope there isn't one!!!

Ugh, I'm so sorry you had the stomach flu! Yuck! Glad to hear you are feeling better though.

When I have a stomach bug, honestly, I don't even try to make my doses. I end up paying the price later of course. But I just can't get anything down when I'm like that. I also struggle with residual nausea for days after. Last time I had to go in and get IV fluids and Zofran. That was partly due to a major dip in sodium though.

I've heard that taking pills with a spoonful of applesauce can help. Hope you're feeling better P-Funk, that stomach bug sounds nasty...

best thing to drink when your "sick" is flat/diet coca cola
Jayde, I had never heard of that before. I’ll have to give it a try sometime :), although flat coke is kind of nasty.

Q, you can add me to the list of peopele you know who drink gingerale when your sick. The bubble make the somache feel better and the sugar gives you a little food/energy.

Glad your better,-Did you have to put your tablets " Up the other way?" To get em inside you?:roflmao:
I guess I should keep an open mind but what do you think is worse, a seizure or an ass full of pills?….. :) I’m pretty sure its seizure but I’m hoping to never find out.

I hadn’t hear of applesauce either Nak, thanks for the suggestion.

Uhhhh.... ass full of pills, hands down.

Don't know that from experience but I guarantee ya, one grand mal and you'll be wishing you'd shoved 'em instead.

And im pretty positive, after 13 pills "inserted" your not gonna be doing much walking. So should a seizure still strike, your gonna be in a nice comfy chair..............or bed.

there something in what you say i drink tonic water or luozade and if timed right it can help

They make an OTC anti-nausea syrup that is made out of cola. Look for the one that says anti-nausea but is not pepto-pink. It's usually cherry flavored.

As far as sipping coke, I have to agree--really helps settle my stomach, I use it often. However, I prefer it carbonated, because the bubbles also seem to help. For me, anyway.

I was also going to say that ginger upsets my stomach, so I avoid ginger ale myself. Others swear by it though, including hubby. He also drinks ginger tea when he doesn't feel well.

I actually had a nasty stomach bug on Sunday, as well. Couldn't seem to hold anything down, not even Pepto-Bismol. Luckily the vomiting only lasted throughout the day and ended around 10pm. (Woke up at 6am not feeling well... then it hit.) I can't be sure, but I'm pretty sure I regurgitated the morning dose of my Keppra 500mg.

I had a focal seizure (simple partial -- flashing lights) that afternoon (Sunday), but luckily it didn't progress. and it was late enough that I could take my evening dose with some water.

Anyone else experienced a seizure after excessive vomiting? (Not pleasant to think about, I know.)

It was a bit scary as I was already pretty exhausted as it was. I was really worried I'd have a grand mal. Glad that wasn't the case. I was probably just really weak from all of it, and seeing as I didn't have any food in the belly... Well, I'm glad it's over.

It seems to've been going around.
