Keppra: Hot Flushes?

Have any of you who have/are taking Keppra suffer with hot flushes?

I'm not sure whether it's just coincidence (especially considering I have been battling a kidney infection for the last couple of weeks), but at 35 - surely I am too young for the menopause :ponder:

I have tried to find a post/thread with this particular side effect - so if there is one out there, please forgive me (and feel free to merge this post into the correct place).

Your thoughts would be very much appreciated :)
 
I often felt hot when on Keppra but I thought it was just that it took so much more effort to move (or do anything for that matter)
 
WEllllllll,

for the few weeks that I was on it, I was hot as bejeezers, too. However, I AM old enough to be going through the change, although, still a bit young (45).

A tidbit of knowledge, though: E women do typically go through the change earlier than normal because of the way the AEDs affect our systems....

lol - I know the tiredness feeling really well - coupled with my recent kidney infection, I don't know what to think now!

Wow.. now that is interesting! I never knew that and will look into that more!

I think what I am going to do is just keep an eye on it. It's not a medical emergency or anything, just a feeling (that is very uncomfortable and leaves me [pardon the pun] hot under the collar!!). I will keep a note of them (inside my seizure diary).

I don't want any more children - but I certainly don't feel ready to go through the change just yet! :noevil:

Well,

I did go thru an early menopause, starting the peri-menopause phase with the hot flushes, menstrual problems, etc. in my mid-thirties. At the time, my ob/gyn kept telling me I was too young to be going thru menopause. Well, I may have been too young, but it was happening! In my mid-forties, I had an Endometrial Ablation to stop all the menstrual problems, and no more hot flushes, either.

was the Ablation due to fibroids, or another cause? I am looking at the same possibility now......

I had the Ablation because my menstrual problems were soooooo out of whack. I would have them start and they would not stop. I was also having 2-3 hot flashes in the night and had to change my nightgown. That's all gone now.

I hope you find the answers..........

I do have those, and I'm only 18...WAY TOO YOUNG FOR MENOPAUSE.
And I am on Keppra.. does it mess with your hormones? I'm just wondering... because hot flushes always happen when I start/when I am off of Keppra.
 
Some people report hot flashes when going off of Keppra. Since Keppra has a short half-life it could be a sign that a higher dose or an extended-release version would work better.
 
Not really related, but my doc didn't want to prescribe extended release keppra because he said he liked the idea of getting an extra spike of medicine late in the day. (I had asked about the XR because of the ongoing sleep issues I have while on keppra and I thought taking it at night was not helping those problems)
 
Im the opposite i seem to get cold sweats ... Like the sort before your sick where your roasting and sweating like mad but shivering your Ass off ... That started when i was put on keppra ... Was bad at first but a month and a bit down the line i still get it but only occasionally
 
I got hot flashes all the time on Keppra. Mainly on the XR. That was one of my main gripes with that med. It would get really frustrating at first, but all the bad side affects leveled off the more I took the drug.
 
I do randomly get hot on Keppra. It seems to occur more towards night time, which makes sleeping that much more difficult.
