Does anyone know what a good keppra level is?

The therapeutic range for blood serum levels is anywhere from 12 to 46 mcg/mL

Keep in mind that some folks may get seizure control at levels on either side of this range, or may have a toxic reaction while within the therapeutic range.

It varies from person to person. The doctor will increase the dose if they feel you need it until they reach a maximum dose or you stop having symptoms or if there is a bad side effect. They started my husband at 500mg twice per day and kept increasing it when he continued to have partial seizures and another tonic/clonic. Within 2 months he was up to 3000mg per day and still not in control of seizures even though they said that was the maximum they could give him, so they put him on lamictal which seemed to slow down the frequency of the partials but he developed a rash and was taken off of the lamictal. He had another t/c after 5 days being off the lamictal so they gave him a prescription for vimpat. The vimpat is working wonderfully with no side effects and no seizures at all so far. His doctor has decided to wean him off the keppra since it didn't seem do much of anything.
I know someone who is on 6000mg of keppra per day! His seizures are still not controlled after 5 years and many different medications. I'm not sure why different patients are allowed different maximums but it is not just based on weight because my DH is over 200 lbs and our friend who is on 6000mg is only about 150 lbs. But then my DH has only been having seizures for months not years.

Keppra

I had uncontrolled partial complex from 1996-2009. During that time, Keppra was one of the many meds my doctors tried on me and failed to help. Finally in 2009, an internist suggested and prescribed lamictal (I take 100mg of the generic form once daily) and within two weeks the partial complex stopped dead in their tracks. I had been having as many as 10-12 per day. I'd talk to your doctor about it. I hope this helps.

I've been taking 3000 mgs. of keppra for 12 years now. I've never had my keppra levels checked like I did when I was taking Tegretol or Dilantin years ago.

I started taking Keppra in 2008 & gradually built up to 3000mg (1500mg am, 1500mg pm).
I had a VEEG in November 2010 & when in for the VEEG the epiologist lowered the Keppra to 2000mg (1000mg am & 1000mg Pm).

I've never had my keppra levels checked like I did when I was taking Tegretol or Dilantin years ago.

I've never had my Keppra levels checked either, I'm pretty sure out of all the AED meds I've been on Tegretol was the only med I had to have my levels checked on a regular basis.
