Am currently changing from epilim (600mg daily) to keppra. Building up my keppra to
1000mg daily then will gradually reduce epilim. On 750mg keppra at moment so in a week I will go to 1000mg. Initial side effects very tired and confused state but this seems to be wearing off, no kepprage or depression/moods that I notice yet but have noticed I am more direct and to the point with people I am not as patient or tolerant anymore. I have noticed a touch of insomnia also but hope this wears off. Please God the keppra will control my JME by itself as I wish to plan a baby asap when stable. Good luck to all.

They upped my dosage (hooray military letting me out and giving me sub-therapeutic dosage) and I'm feeling the same issues again, but not to bad. Then again I did go through some depression due to whole life issues and meds didn't help that I think.
My VA doctor said the anti-seizure meds do kind of put a blanket over the brain to say that slows down neural activity....not sure how that makes the emotions act up unless it's a more primal part of oneself acting and not the higher functions of the brain that humans use normally... food for thought... Our brains are to powerfully to be fully used, so it shorts out. ;) IQ+IT = off the deep end.

July 2 started switch from Dilantin to keppra. 1st week I was taking 400 mg Dilantin 1000 mg keppra daily. 2nd week keppra was increased to 1500 daily. REALLY tired sleepy uncoordinated and VERY depressed. August 8th got to start cutting back on Dilantin 100 mg decrease each week. As of August 29th no more Dilantin. Not really sure of sleep yet. Spent almost entire time last weekend sleeping. Monday I HAD to get some house work done. Drank water with some of the energy stuff. Says it has caffeine b3 b6 & b12. Did give me energy to do house work all day. Monday night... No sleep. Not sure what was cause of no sleep??? Meds, energy drink (drank early in the morning only), hormones or had issue with son that was upsetting. Wish I knew. Got off wrk Tuesday night around midnight went home had no problems sleeping. Woke up Wednesday anxiety irritated and depressed. Keppra working just having a REALLY hard time it seems like with mood changes. Go from bouncing off the walls to crying and sleeping... No happy medium.

...also really big weight loss. Never in my life have I ever lost so much weight without even really trying. Used to love to eat. Now I eat and then feel sick. Have to make myself eat.

I like keppra's efficacy on my seizures but it gave me horrible "Keppra rage" it made me aggressive and emotional. I only made it up to 1000mg a day. After 6 months, my wife complained so my dr. changed me to Dilantin.

Hey there just an update on my meds switch in case it benefits anyone else. Am now on my full 1000mg keppra (500mg x 2) daily. I am still on my 600mg epilim daily. Next week I start to drop the epilim by 100mg a week :-O that is the scary part as I hope I will keep seizure free then. Feeling good, do get "kepprage" for 4 or 5 days after I increase my dose (angry, irritable, intolerant, crying for no reason) but then after a few days it settles down. The insomnia has settled down thankfully. I am taking a preconception multi vitamin so I think the b vitamins and magnesium etc in that is helping me :) I do find I am more outspoken now and tend to tell it how it is which people might find rude but not too bad. Maybe that is a good thing!:pfft: Will update when I start dropping my epilim yikes.....
