Hi again. I'm hoping someone can shed some light.

My first neurologist who prescribed me Keppra said I cannot take any kind of sleep medication with it. I switched doctors and the second neuro prescribed me Sonata as a sleep aid and said the first neurologist was mistaken and that it's fine.

I'm so confused as to who to trust and which doctor to stay with. Does anyone have any experience with taking Keppra WITH Sonata? I took it last night and today I just feel 'off' and unfocused. Wondering if this is why.

Thanks for any input you can give me.

Here's what the drug interaction site says for Keppra with Sonata. (link below)

MONITOR: Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.

MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.

Basically, it means you can take the sleep medication with Keppra, but proceed with caution until you get a sense of how you feel. Since both meds have a sedating effect, they can make you feel extra-knocked out.
