It's been 3 weeks since I've been only on Lamictal (I was on Carbamazepine XR for 20 years and switched to Lamictal since we are TTC). I've been nauseous since I got off the Carbamazepine XR. If I don't take the meds with food or if I get anywhere even close to hungry, I get violently ill. I've even thrown up a couple of times. I have an appointment with my neurologist on Friday to discuss my progress on the Lamictal.

Has anyone had this experience with Lamictal? Any suggestions to curb the nausea? Do you think I would be able to take Zofran long-term in order to curb the way I feel or would that eventually become ineffective?

I just moved to lamictal and I noticed that in beginning. i assume they probably weened you off of tegretol and onto lamictal?
Thats what they did with me. I noticed naseu for the first 3 to 4 weeks. Now I feel better.
I think these side effects are rough at first but soemtimes we get used to them.
I wish you all the luck!

Hopefully the nausea will just be temporary as your body gets used to the Lamictal. If you want to use the Zofran to get through the "break-in" period, that should be fine. If the nausea gets worse or intolerable, let the neuro know -- it might just be the wrong med for you.

I've been on Lamictal for about 15 years now, and I don't think I had nausea even in the beginning. My doc and I agreed to add trileptal, and THAT is one that gives me problems. If I get over 200 mg per day I get stomach pains, gas, loss of appetite and, well, other GI sorts of problems. Other than that it seems to help reduce my szs but I may not be able to get over 200 mg.

I was on Lamictal once...sounds like an opening to a bad joke...anyway, while on Lamictal I never got nauseous, but I did experience a lot of frustration. I had cognitive issues. Trying to speak aloud and think was becoming an issue for me. So we stopped that one. Super weird experience.
