I've been on Lamictal now since late last year. It was actually prescribed to me originally by my psychiatrist for bipolar symptoms, but since it is also an Anticonvulsant, my edoc has increased the dose from 200mg/day to 500mg/day.

In the past several months I have lost almost 20 pounds. This is a bit alarming because I'm already underweight for my age and height. (The good news is I have a mild 6 pack under my belly fat!)

Anyone else experience weight loss symptoms from Lamictal (or even other AEDs)?

It never made me lose weight wish it had maybe you should be asking doc look in different direction

Lamictal's considered to be one of the more "weight-neutral" AEDs, but people have reported both weight gain and weight loss while on it. I've experienced maybe a tiny amount of weight gain, although that's more likely to be related to an aging metabolism.

I lost quite a bit of weight while on Zonegran. It can work as an appetite suppressant (and has been marketed as such in other countries).

Yes, I lost about 30-35 pounds. Today I started on Wellbutrin so I may lose more work. I don't need to lose anymore work. I have a wardrobe of clothes from 10's to 4's. I can't afford more.

Lamictal seems to be weight neutral for me. Haven't noticed any changes in appetite since starting it a year and a half ago.

I was on Lamictal for about 2 years post-surgery, and I don't recall losing or gaining weight on it. The one that really killed my appetite was Topamax. It totally killed my appetite to the point I couldn't finish a fast-food meal. After I got off of it, people told me they had thought I was anorexic.

Lamictal is one of the meds I take but I know that I'm just not hungry, I don't know if the Lamictal is causing it or not. I'm not starving myself on it though because I don't notice any weight loss. I do eat but it's just lunch, I'm not eating 3 meals a day.
