blah.. my bf is freaking me out...

ok i've been taking Lo Loestrin Fe before I got diagnosed with E and put on Lamictal.. I did inform my neurologist that i'm on birth control and asked if it will affect my bc at all..

now bf researched my birth conrol and says there seizure medication makes my birth control ineffective..

blah im freaking out..lol

anyone else here who's on seizure med and birth control???

I was taking Depo-Provera (the shot) and never had any problems with it. I had asked both my gyno and neuo about taking it along with my epilepsy meds, and the possibility of it causing seizures and they said that I'd be just fine. I didn't notice any changes in the amount of seizures when I was on it and when I stopped (I had a hysterectomy).

I just did some quick looking on the internet and did find one web site that said you shouldn't take it if you have epilepsy or seizures. A few of the reasons were that you shouldn't take it if you take some epilepsy medicines, you could check to make sure you aren't on any of those. It also said if you do have epilepsy the you may need a dose adjustment or special tests.

You might want to discuss it again with your gyno or neuro and check again to make sure things are all right and you are taking it as you need to be. If you are really worried then you might consider changing to another form of birth control.

Yeah I read on some stuff

Some says lamictal makes lo loestrin fe ineffective

The other one says lo loestrin makes lamictal less effective and increasing dosage might be necessary...

Oh blah... some days I just want to get my tubes tied. Lol

On top of my Epilepsy I have PCOS so birth control is a must for me...

Omg.. I need a new brain and new ovaries... lol

Lamictal can be made less effective by bc pills. I was on seasonale when I first started taking it, and because of that my provider started me on a slightly higher dose than I would've if not for that. The dose will also need adjusted if you go off of bc pills.

Topamax on the other-hand, and I think Trileptal (?) make bc pills less effective. Dunno if there are any others.
