Hello,

I have a bit of a problem (I feel a bit stupid at the moment). They gave me a different brand of Lamictal, so new box, new tablets, new everything.
My neurologist recently told me to up my dose to 175mgX2 gradually over 2 weeks because the medicine lvls in the blood were low (seizure free since October :). I finished upping the dose last Sunday (3\10\2013).
I just realized that for the last three and a half days, I've been taking 225mg instead of 175 :\ I messed the boxes up.
I cannot consult a doctor right now, would you girls\guys suggest reducing it gradually over a few days or just go back to the normal dose?

Thanks,

Ben

P.S: I posted here a while ago about memory issues. I had a blood test and my Vit. B and D were low enough for the doctor to call me and ask weather I was living in starvation in poverty :\. + they prescribed me a bit of Ritalin, so I'm feeling a bit better about that.

Slower is always safer -- if you can reduce by 25 mg for a week (or even two), and then another 25mg over the next week or so.

Have you added a supplement or changed your diet to help with the vitamin deficiencies?

I started taking supplements. I eat pretty well, so I'm guessing the medicine is causing some absorption problems.
I guess I'll start reducing the Lamictal gradually.

Thanks for the quick response,

Ben

A thought just popped into my head,

If I've only been taking the higher dose for 3.5 days wouldn't reducing it slowly actually increase the levels of Lamictal in the blood?
Upping the dose from 150 to 175 twice a day I did over two weeks. Maybe it's better to reduce a bit faster, at 50mg this week and another 50 next week?

Sounds reasonable?

Thanks

I'm currently ramping up on lomotagine 25mg a week. I think Nak is right by decreasing it by 25mg a week. These meds its just usually slower the better.

I'll start working my way down at 25mg\week, can't believe I made this mistake
Thanks for the good advice!

You'd probably be okay at a faster taper, but given that one cause of seizures is stopping or decreasing meds too quickly, it's safer to go slow. A slow taper also minimizes withdrawal symptoms.
