My almost 4 yr old is being switched from Tompamax to Lamotrigene, starting tonite, due to side effects. About 30 minutes after taking, he said his smile did not feel right? tho he could smile cause I saw him do so. Not sure what he was trying to say. Been checking on him frequently and he 'seems' fine. I can not find anything regarding this as a possible side effect when I've googled. Anyone else on this drug ever have this happen? Just really worried over here :(

When I first went on Lamotrigine it had a bit of a "speedy" effect (it mostly wore off after a few months). Maybe your son is feeling some tension in his mouth, or a teeth-clenching sensation? I get that a little in the night/early morning.

I'm on Topamax myself and I find I get a "pins and needles" feeling in my face a lot whenever my dose is being changed, it could be that if you've started to alter the dose or if the drugs are interacting?

He might be having the same sensation as when we go to the dentist from too much Novacaine? This is what his Nana suggested. Sounds plausible to me. Horrified of this new drug. Just want something to work for him without the bad side effects. He's only 4!!!!!!! :(

Lamotrigne made me feel too alert but not in the 'right' way- all seemed strangely alert so after four days I took myself off of them and had eight months of severe anxiety. I was then put on tegretol which I got along fine with but my doctor has now changed me to clonazepam which make me clumsy an drowsy

Well, looks like my son will likely be taken off lomatrigine as well. He started with a rash on bottom part of his lip a few days ago....By the end of the day looked like red lip liner and started to peel. Went to his upper lip yesterday. Off to call pedi now - doc just called to confirm if drug rash.

Sorry to hear about your son, Anna, I hope things are sorted out soon.

Nick
