Ok, if i'm going to sit in a hospital bed for 2 weeks, I may as well have some fun! So what should I take with me? I'm going to treat myself to a new pair of pjs, so at least I look cool, even if I look like I've been drinking for 3 months straight.

I'm hoping I can borrow a laptop, I'll take my uni books with me and I'll keep you guys posted, but what else can I do? Do you think they will let me take a foam underlay to make the bed more comfortable? haha I hate hospital beds. I'm definitely taking my pillow!

Shame I can't take my little dog =(

I agree with the hospital beds.. Good luck with that. I took a lot of movies. I was still board out of my head! What ever you decide to take I hope this 2 weeks works out the way you hope and answers a lot of un answered questions for you !

Me too Pita300! Hey can you remind me of what they found on your EEG? How long did it take for them to get what they needed?

My first VEEG last June was 5 days. Although the EEG showed seizure activity the seizure I had in the hospital didn't show on the EEG. The Doctor being a facts person If it doesn't show on the EEG it must be pseudo. I fought that until November when I had a 3 day Ambulatory EEG Same thing abnormal EEG but seizures didn't show on the EEG. But finally the video showed the seizure. The doctor finally said the seizure was consistent with a focal seizure. A seizure that most commonly miss diagnosed as PNES due to the fact the EEG just doesn't pick it up. Why they didn't pick that up in June I don't know I'm still scratching my head over that. So don't let them try to tell you that its all in your head. You tell them that not all seizure activity shows on an EEG.. I hope that doesn't happen but if it does Make them prove to you that the seizures aren't real.

That is hard one! I found I was bored to death after 2 days :) If you can, get a Netflix subscription for instant streaming. I think you can get a 3 month one. Anyway, tons to watch that way. I wish I had thought of that for mine. This is gonna sound gross, but take lots of jammie pants. My butt got so hot sitting in that bed for so long :) Okay, maybe to much TMI, but girl to girl, trust me on that one.

You're lucky they have internet on the ward! Not so where I'm waiting to get one done.

oh good news wobblez that you're finally going!!!!
i was in 17 days but sounds like i'm alot luckier than most - i had my boyfriend in a cot beside me the whole time. he brought me yummy food and played cards and was there every time a different specialist came in to help keep track of what was said... it was so nice. so, if you'll be alone, take a deck of cards to play solitaire etc., lots of girly magazines, crossword puzzle books, and def like huskymom said, netflix for movies. however, we're not allowed to touch an electric cord so you'll have to have a nurse plug it in and unplug it for you when the power gets low etc. no big, it's worth it :)

I agree with huskymom's Netflix recommendation. Is it available in Australia?

Anyways, my son, age 14, was in hospital for a video-monitored EEG, and Netflix saved me from going nuts. I loaded up my iPad and queued a bunch of his favorite programs, and he watched from early in the morning to just before falling asleep at night.

But, we were only there for 3 days and 2 nights (sounds like I'm describing a weekend holiday, doesn't it?!?), so you'll obviously need more than that.

Do you like to read? You might consider bringing an e-reader loaded with lots of good books. There are tons of free classics if you're interested in that sort of thing.

well if it were me, I'd be doing everything possible to have as many seizures as possible. That would mean, a lot of caffeine, staying up until 3 a.m., as much deleterious action as I could, doing as many things as I could summon to have a seizure.
maybe getting as comfortable as you can get shouldn't be a priority~?

but if you want to see a neat project I saw recently!:

be careful of those sewing needles though~

oh no pete, they tell you when to sleep and not sleep and how soon they want you pulling all-nighters. all has to do with how soon they take you off your meds too. comfort is a good thing, esp. when you have to stay that long. yeah being irritated and stressed may help bring on a seizure however you dont want to take that with you after going through a once-in-a-lifetime experience. also, the more mentally unstable you are in there will have great impact on how you feel when you get home and are ramping back up on your meds. when you get home you feel like shit so you may as well enjoy, for lack of a better word, it while you're there ;)
it's actually pretty neat what they all do with you, i found having all the probes put on kinda soothing, made me drowsy.

Haha Pete, I know what you mean though! I'm only assuming that they will give me coffee, allow me to have friends in etc. I actually didn't think of the hospital having wifi, I was going to take my dongle with me. Do you think they will let me walk around the room and do some stretching? Lol

Jake was allowed to walk around as long as he stayed within range of the camera. You'll definitely want to get up and stretch, believe me!

For sure Netflix! I'd try to watch the most upbeat stuff to keep your moods up. Eventually my mind caught sight of my meds being gone and I got pretty crank. I would imagine they wouldn't have any issue with you bringing a foam underlay.

Also when I did my video EEG they told me to have a button up top or zip up. It had something to do with the leads connected to the annoying sling thing I had on. I'm not sure if thats the process for all extended video EEG's but just a heads up.

Good luck and hopefully they can find something really early! That way you can get back home and comfy in your own bed. Hospital beds are made to be uncomfortable, with those dreaded rocks they call cushions.

Thanks for the heads up MTF =) I guess its for the sticky things they put on your chest. You have great timing because I'm planning to get myself a reasonably attractive pair of pj's today! I'm determined to have some self pride!

I actually have a giftcard for Quickflix in front of me, but when I went to sign up, they asked me for my credit card details, purely just to verify I'm over 18. This made me suspicious, as its a free card up to the value of $55, with no obligation to sign up. Do you think that's dodgy?

Do they keep you in for observation for a few days after they have got the info they need? I assume if they do, they would move me to the usual ward to free up the VEM room.

Thanks everyone, I'm keenly awaiting the information they said they would post out!

well in my experience i could 'stretch' so to speak but was really only allowed to get up to use the bathroom. they said, 'go to the bathroom then right back to bed.'

they kept me in the same bed right up until i left. they still need to watch you very closely, which is why you stay a couple days after having the probes off. they're ramping you back up on your meds which makes you vulnerable to seizures the same as taking you off them does, so tho your probes are off and you can shower, plan on staying a bit longer. for your safety big time.

and wobblez i have to ask......... what's a dongle?

Hi Qtowngirl, thanks for the info, although i'm not sure I wanted to hear it lol. Did your room have a window? I'm going to go mad if mine doesn't. I'll get cabin fever. The jokes will be even more lame than usual and i'll press the button for coffee.

A dongle is a portable internet modem that you plug into your computer through a USB connection. It means you can take your internet anywhere =)

:roflmao: Our room had a window, but it overlooked a parking lot and the freeway, and a few abandoned buildings on the other side. Lovely!

my room was directly under the helicopter landing pad :) Interesting for sure! I was only allowed up for using the bathroom, and even then I had to have a nurse with me. Your lucky having someone with you. I was alone the entire time. The hubby had to work and I was in the hospital in a different state! Yours will go fine, I am sure.

Thats the best i've seen so far. When I was in I they put this yellow sign out side my door that says fall risk. That means every time I was off camera they were running into my room. Even the bathroom wasn't a sacred place! I never fell once. Out my window was a beautiful view of the pigeons. Rats with wings they are the ugliest dirtiest birds!
