Tried lamictal, tried epilim (not sure if i want to stick with it)... I know everyone's different -somethings will work for some, but not for others. Has anyone had any success with this drug (keppra)? please enlighten me on the good, the bad, and the ugly...

The only anti epileptic i've taken that seemed to help without really bad side affects for me. Didn't knock me out like everything else. If it doesn't seem to make you feel better id suggest upping the dose, that seemed to help me out at first.

Ive been on Keppra for 14 years now. It works great for me. Ive always taken the name brand, and today Im trying the generic for the first time! Keeping an eye out on how things are going for now. :)

Levetiracetam is working for me. I've been on it almost 6 months now; I had some bad side effects initially, but not now. Still have grand mal seizures but the last one was lighter. Good luck!

I take the generic versions of both Lamictal and Keppra.

Keppra = Anger! :evil2:
Lamictal = Happy! :D

Lamictal is a mood elevator and it balances out my Keppra rage... making me a respectable member of society... kinda :)

I take Levetiracetam and it's worked well. I don't notice any side effects with exception of possibly one but it may not be related, I have tremors in my hands but don't know if it's that or not. But it keeps me seizure free so far. Both are same in treating seizures, Keppra's just more expensive.

Been on Keppra for a year now. Works well for me. Didn't tack on any additional side effects I was experiencing from Lamictal or make them worse.

Our son, age eight, is on Keppra now for the 2nd time.

He was on it first from age 18 months to two years old. At that time he was having infrequent tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures -- maybe once a month or so -- and the Keppra didn't seem to make any difference, so he was weaned off after about 6 months and put on Topamax (which did really work for 3 1/2 years).

Then the Topamax stopped working, and he went through one drug after another, and now we're back to Keppra (he's also on Zonegran, and almost weaned off Diazepam).

This time, it seems that the Keppra is helping with daytime photosensitive seizures (tonic) -- he's still having them, but not as much -- maybe 50% reduced.

The one significant side effect (and I think this affects kids more) is that he gets into these super-hyperactive frenzies -- it's not a rage -- in fact, it starts when he's really happy and excited - like, we'll be playing a game or something -- and then he goes into this hyper hyper state -- almost like a seizure in and of itself -- a little scary. We did notice though that when we started to reduce the Diazepam, that the hyperness from the Keppra eased up -- maybe the two drugs were interacting somehow.

The other side effect is that he's quite mean -- hurting people -- pinching, scratching, and hitting -- he's not mad -- he just will do something like be cuddling on the sofa with you, and all of a sudden -- bam!! He hauls off and just slaps really hard. He runs up to total strangers and pinches them or hits them. It's quite embarrassing, and he seems totally unable to control himself.

Along with the hyperactivity and aggression, there's a lack of self-control and some destructive behavior.

so...yes, it does seem to help with the seizures, but making it hard to live with the little guy.

I been on it about year it seemed to be helping my control of t/c but defo not the side effects, im mega agressive and it made my depression worse! but everyone is different it be worth a go to see how u get on with it!
