This is the way it seems to me at the moment. Zebinix is probably a good drug for some, it has caused arguments between myself and my wife because the Zebinix masks all/most physical side effects like the movement of your legs or arms and so on but it does not stop the seizures, you still know you had a seizure though and boy do you know. I think it makes the seizure worse in ways, it does make your head sorer and the headache seems stronger, if anything it seems to intensify the strength of the seizure. The problem is you can only rely on yourself to know when you had a seizure because nobody else will realise it and that is not good as others do not tend to believe you had a seizure, thus the arguments and rows when you come to. It seems to cause a rash in your hair line and eye brows but this could be caused by a change in shampoo so I will have to start removing one by one the things that could cause it. It does effect your eye sight and there can be swelling under the eye.

It can still make you feel nausea after taking it at times but not as bad as it did at the start. The tiredness or lack of energy stays with you and unless you make yourself get up and do something, whether its hovering or going for a walk you will never leave the chair. The water shed you have with it is important and should not be forgotten, the one thing you have to fight all the time is the sleep, you can fall asleep at the click of a finger and it does not matter where. I have and do fall asleep in my mother-in laws just by sitting down, I fall asleep sitting on the chair watching television or on my laptop while here, I have gotten a skin infection on my leg, it will not clear up fully even with antibiotics. It can cause you to be itchy at times but no more than normal.

The thing I do not like is the fact it masks the physical effects of a seizure causing arguments. Will I work again, No and the zebinix has its part to play in that, I do drive a little, maybe once a week with my wife to the shop 1/2 mile away and back but that is it, my driving is curtailed by my own choice because I am still unsure. This was scary at the start as I knew nobody else on Zebinix and its still scary at times. Can you imagine PM sombody here and on the third time you fall asleep, you wake up 3 hours later to find that person has logged of and you have to explain that you fell asleep, not a nice feeling.

I'm sorry, Liam, that you're experiencing the rashes, continued seizures, fatigue, and the masking of the physical effects. That can't be easy. Have you discussed these with your neurologist yet? Or, when is your next appointment? This is a fairly new drug, right? Was the plan to try this and see how it goes? Please make sure that you advocate for yourself (which I'm sure you do) and let them know how you're feeling!

And by the way, we are family here. If you do fall asleep while PM'ing with someone, I know that they will understand. An explanation isn't necessary, and no one will be upset with you. You shouldn't give that a second thought, my friend.

It is great to get an update, and I know that if others to try this medication, the information you've provided will be a huge help!!
:hugs: Liam!

Zebinix is relatively new to the market, but it's very closely related to Tegretol. I think the hope was that it would be tolerated more easily, but the official list of side effects definitely includes fatigue, headache, nausea, rash, and blurred vision. Lucky you, Liam, it seems like you've hit the jackpot and get to experience all the negatives. :( If they are outweighing the positives it is worth getting in touch with the neurologist -- even if getting him to listen and make changes is a pain in the butt. Have you mentioned the rash to your regular doctor? There may be something he can do to help with that. Since Zebinix causes dry skin, make sure you are drinking a lot of water and maybe try a skin cream to see if it helps with the itching.

:hugs:

Thanks Mel I just hope it is of some help, I wrote what I could remember to be honest. I think they used me as a test subject for the zebinix. It's not right for me to fall asleep when PM'ing you or anybody and fall asleep.

Nakamova

I won the lotto as far as the zebinix goes, oh I have tried to get in touch with my neurologist but I was in with my GP and told him about all of this so he wants me to write everything down and document the times ect of everything, sound obvious. Well I had all that done already and showed him, he said to me "well if its of no benefit to you we may as well take you off it, but you will have to wait awhile till we see the effects and you need to start keeping a diary, I will show you how..." I have been on it six months at that stage.

Thanks for the update, Liam. I can relate to your post - I have the same issues with Tegretol, Pregabalin and Clonazepem - I should add that Clonazepam is the most helpful of the three, allowing me some stress free sleep and enabling me to go out late in the day.

Keep us updated :)
