The article said epilepsy is rare in lions and they thought it was genetic in this case.

I know it's pretty common in dogs, and is considered to be genetic in them too.

I once saw a dog go into a seizure at my daughter's softball game. Poor animal. But I thought, glad it is the dog and not me this time.
