Interesting thing today.

I don't usually use gas when at the dentist, but I have been pretty stressed and tense. I could feel my blood pressure rising more than it usually does. When getting the local in the back of my mouth, my muscles were preventing the doctor from getting to the spot he wanted. To relax a little he gave me gas.

Immediately I got so dizzy I couldn't stay still. It was like taking multiple shots of alcohol simultaneously.

Has anyone had an interaction like this?

For reference the only medicines I use are oxcarbazepine and levetiracetam.

I don't have experience with gas. But, I have found my seizure meds to effect other meds and/or vice versa. Sometimes, there's a stronger effect of a drug and sometimes I feel like my seizure meds prevent other meds from having much of an effect. Pharmacists are the experts.

I've had several different surgeries on my body and dental since I've been taking meds and I've never had any problems. Oxcarbazepine and levetiracetam aren't any of the meds I'm on though.

I had spinal surgery and was a little concerned that I could have a seizure during it but my dr said it was very unlikely I would because gas relaxes your body.

Have you ever been under before you were taking those meds? Did you have any sort of problem?

I've been taking them so long it is hard to remember what it felt like before them. I had never been under for anything with or without the meds. The only real problem I had the other day was dizziness.

I'm sure my reply won't be helpful. :p

I used to do ok with laughing gas when I was a little kid for cavities. However, the last time I had it I was in my middle teens and it was so scary- I was panicking but couldn't move or say anything, I was completely still.

It's hard for me to answer this when it comes to epilepsy though. I supposedly grew out of my seizures when I was around 5 and lived life seizure free (don't think so) until I had a few grand mals at 39. Medicated ever sense but haven't had any dental surgeries. Thinking about it now, I'd be happy with the shot (novacane?) or if it's serious work, I'd prefer general anesthesia.

I told you my answer wouldn't be very helpful, but truth be told, after my last gas experience, I wouldn't ever do it again.

Think something like a Valium would help? Since I'm a little claustrophobic they offer me one before my eegs.
