What medication do you take to control your seizures and how much does it help? I take Oxcarbazepin. It helps the best out of the few I've taken over my lifetime. I no longer have grand mal seizures because of it. If you don't mind it would also be nice to know medication you took in the past for seizures as well.

Phenytoin (Dilantin) first.
Next Zonisamide (Zonegran).
Now Lamotrigine (Lamictal).

My seizures have been responsive to all three, but on Zonisamide my loss of appetite eventually gave me low blood sugar that triggered a seizure. I've been seizure-free on Lamotrigine for about 5 years.

I am presently on Lamictal, trileptal and Topamax all three.

I've been on 5 meds all up & for years I was on at less 2 med at a time.
The meds I've tried are
Tegretol - 2002 - April 2013
Lamictal - 2004 - 2006
Topamax - 2006 - 2008 (didn't have much of an appetite & lost a heap of weight)
Keppra -2008 - current
Neurontin - 2009 - 2010 (affected my moods, could cry or snap at anyone at the drop of a pin, always tired, also sure it affected my memory)

The meds pretty much controlled my tonic clonics but we had trouble finding a combination to control the simple/complex partials.
I ended up having brain surgery in March 2011, for me the surgery really helped control my seizures & I am coming up to being 3 years seizure free :)

Klonopin/Ativan
Neurontin - increased #of seizures
Back to Klonopin/Ativan until next doctor appt.

Lamictal worked, but it was stopped for rash.

2010 - clonazepam with minimal benefit
2010 - clobazam with some benefit but intolerable side effects (couldn't increase the dose)
2011 - tegretol with some benefit but unable to increase dose due to side effects
2012 - tegretol with added keppra; improved benefit than tegretol alone, but side effects with keppra beyond a certain level
2013 - vimpat added to tegretol and keppra; large improvement in seizure severity, duration and after-effects

I take:
Tegretol-it works some until I try to come off it with my neuros help.I want off Tegretol been on it since it came out.
Topamax,-it works better any of them now.
Clonazepam-I can't seem to come off because it works even the .5 I take a day
Phenobarbitol-Seems be helping some and it makes me so sleepy.
Onfi

The last one made my 22nd AED for me to take, I still never know when my seizures may come on and I'm not going to sit at home because I might have one in public.
