As the 2nd day of my 2 week EEG monitoring draws to a close, I am surprised that nothing has happened, despite the fact that my last dose of Lamictal was on friday morning (its now 7.30pm saturday). I guess I'm just a little anxious that if nothing happens, I will be wasting everyone's time and I won't get any answers. I appreciate how complex epilepsy must be, but can someone share their thoughts on how long it can take before the seizures return? I usually get auras within a few hours of missing my tablets, (in the real world) but I'm confined to a hospital bed so I'm resting constantly. Thanks everyone xxx

Seizures always seem to take their time when you really want it to happen no rhyme or reason to it. You've been on Lamictal for a while so It may take a while for the level to drop. Remember your not in the real world right now. Your on camera, you have nurses coming in and out. But good things come to these who wait!

Lamictal has a longer half-life than some of the other meds (like Keppra) so it might take a while before the seizures kick in. Hang in there! I'd tell you not to stress about it, but in this case you want to do whatever it takes to triggers your seizures -- so go ahead and stress. And drink a lot of caffeine. And don't sleep.
Hey, Wobblez, I don't remember: do you have daytime seizures or nocturnal? Just wondering, as mine are nocturnal and I'm trying to get the best idea I can what to expect when it's my turn lol. But back to you: how do you and your Mum keep yourselves entertained all day and night??
Hi everyone, Nakamova, I type this in one hand while holding a large coffee in the other haha! I'm starting to have auras and I'm feeling weaker than yesterday so maybe my brain has suddenly caught up with the plan. I am an Aussie though, we don't like to rush these things

Masterjen, tonight will be the first night that Mum and I have to stay up. So far the plan is to watch The United States of Tara and House on DVD. The back up involves our terrible sense of humour and probably spying on the nurses.

It's only 1.15am here so we are only halfway through the night. My night nurse is lovely and she's had time to chat with us which is nice. I'm tired but it's going pretty fast really! My mum has been telling me all about her childhood. It's nice to sit down and ask lots of questions

I saw in your other thread where you commented that if you were allowed to run around and live life that something (ie. seizure of some sort) would happen sooner. That's the way I think about it, too. How can they expect something to happen when we're lying around all day??

Hi everyone. Finally we had some action!! Yesterday I was operating on two hours sleep from the sleep deprivation. I asked the doc if I could do some exercise to help push myself and they put me on an exercise bike! That was great after laying in bed for 3 days. Then I had some friends come in and as I walked around to the other side if my bed, I stumbled and fell back down on to the bed, very slowly lol. Apparently my friend saw my eyes roll back a little. About 10mins later the jerking started and I had some simple and maybe complex partials that lasted on and off at least half an hour. I'm feeling like more are on their way now. Looking forward to seeing what the doctor has to say.

Hope they figure out what is going on and you get to hear the news soon. I think sometimes the seizures don't hit during an EEG like this when seizure control was pretty good. I hadn't had seizures for a while before my video EEG, so nothing really typical happened for me.

I liked your Midwest sentiment too MuayTaiFighter! So I spoke to the Neuro this morning. Would you believe over an hour of seizure activity showed nothing on the EEG! They were only partials I guess. But there were two incidences where the EEG showed abnormal brain activity, one of which correlated with my noting down that I felt funny. I think he said it showed up in my temporal and frontal lobes on both sides of my brain. He said it wasn't epileptiform in nature but it was definitely abnormal activity. So now the next time I have something happen they will quickly take bloods and see if it could be metabolic. Im still having feelings now so I'm pressing the button every time. May as well get as much out of this as I can!

As a child I had more nocturnal than day time seizures but these days I seem to have them mostly when I'm awake but in a relaxing situation, like watching TV at night. There have been many exceptions though, so its hard to say.
In terms of trying to replicate real life, these guys are really helpful. They put me on an exercise bike yesterday and gave me a bit of a workout. They also sleep deprive me, and encourage me to sit on my computer as I normally would at uni. I guess its all about funding. They have lots of good ideas but are limited by safety measures and financial resources. Surfing CWE is making me dizzy.

Good to see your brain has been performing but pity that it hasn't been showing up on the eeg. Do the neurologists think the seizure activity you had which didn't show up was to deep in your brain?
Got my fingers across that your brain continues to perform & they get some decent results.

Hey CQ, the doc said that it was quite possible it was occurring between the electrodes, and not close enough to them for detection. We openly discussed psychogenic seizures and although he said he's not ruling anything out, he seems to be more concerned with what DID show up on the EEG, than what didn't. I think my saving grace is my positive EEG history in childhood. I'm pleased that he is being so thorough, its just amazing because seizures always feel so dramatic, then he said "Oh I didn't see any twitching" and I almost said "Are you blind??" lol. Then I realised video from 3 metres away probably wouldn't do it justice. =)
