My memory whats happening to it??

First a very funny thing happened. I was looking through members and stumbled upon another grace face except spelt graceyface so i clicked on her to check her out and up pops a picture of meeee. I created a profile 4 years ago wrote a few things and completely forgot abut it!!!

Just wondering how much peoples memories are effected by there epilepsy... right now i don't take any meds but seems the more seizures i have the more my memory gets weaker. a lot of stuff i just completely don't remember. some things doesn't really matter like the above which is kinda funny but more recently some more concerning. For example, my housemate had a friend come over, i met her and ended up spending the night chatting having a really in depth personal conversation, this was in january. she had to leave a week later to go to europe, she's over there now. I got an email a few days ago from a stranger saying hey how you doing, i haven't forgotten our great chat, hope your really well, she brought up some personal things we discussed and said she hoped i was doing ok. I was shocked that someone could email me say the things she said nd i have no idea who they were. luckily she mentioned my housemate so i went on Facebook checked my housemates friends list and sussed her out. soon as i saw her face a strong air of familiarity arose, like she was someone i really knew, that feeling was there but then nothing else, i dot remember anything. sigh... it scares me, what is my epilepsy doing to my brain?

anyone else experiencing anything like this?

I do this kind of thing all of the time... :?
Exactly as you described it as well. The not knowing, but seeing a face and getting a sense of them being familiar, but no memories attached to it.

If your seizures happen in the part of the brain where memories are stored and encoded (temporal lobes, near the hippocampus/amygdala), then memory can be affected.

Some of the anti-seizure meds can also mess with memory. Even though my seizures are well-controlled (and not the temporal lobe variety), I've found my ability to remember people I've met to be especially weak lately. I suspect that aging and the meds play a role in my case.

Grace,

As Nak said, if your seizure start in the hippocampus area (temporal lobes), then your memory will be effected. I have a damaged hippocampus in my left temporal lobe and definitely have a difficult time remembering names, dates, times, etc. I keep things written on my calendar(s) at home and in my purse and have to repeat things over and over in my head/write them down to help myself remember them.

Back in the 90's, I was heavily medicated on 3 AED's and don't remember a lot of things about raising my own two children. :( They have to remind me of things that happened back then. How sad is that?!
