I had nauseating migraine this morning waking up
the type where even subtle movement feels like my skull playing soccer using my brain as the ball
empty stomach, but I was "throwing up" over the toilet, but nothing came out...

my dad picked me up to go eat because I couldn't deal with messing with the bus
at the restaurant (cinnamon smelled wretched again, on the pancakes, but I just had to eat, eating quickly...) my dad's plate came with a jalapeno which made me recall the drug capsaicin and hearing about its benefits as a pain killer

well after iphoning some info on it, and after shoving a pea-sized piece of jalapeno up each nostril... I came to the conclusion - wow
that really works - it did for me at least

capsaicin comes in some nasal spray products (later, after eating, I couldn't find it at Walgreens, but I found it online) and it says doctors can administer it intranasally

but since there was no doctor around - and a jalapeno was around...

since it was a diner, I prepped myself by opening a small coffee creamer in case my nose burst into flames, I could douse it with cream (drinking milk takes the spice out of your mouth, so, I figured sniffing a little creamer, just in case...)

one worry I did have was that I might go into some sort of anaphylaxsis shock or something - but this migraine was that bad

so I left the pieces in my nostrils for a minute or two as my eyes started watering and my nostrils were tingling to say the least

I'm pretty sure this jalapeno was the type jarred in water, which eased my mind. as opposed to some type jarred in worchestershire sauce or something.
I definitely wouldn't snort Pace Picante Sauce or anything...

a couple minutes after I'd blown my nose clean again...
WOW

I could feel the difference definitely - it has left me a little hallucinationally-dazy, and the benefit seems to wear off after a short while (I brought the rest of the jalapeno with me to administer throughout the day~...)

something to keep in mind...
... is that I'm nuts
but armed against migraines for today.

Pepper Power

I'm shocked that the pepper didn't burn the inside of your nostril.

It sounds like something I wouldn't recommend anyone do.

Capsaicin (play /kæpˈseɪ.ɨsɪn/; 8-methyl-N-vanillyl-6-nonenamide, (CH3)2CHCH=CH(CH2)4CONHCH2C6H3-4-(OH)-3-(OCH3) ) is the active component of chili peppers, which are plants belonging to the genus Capsicum. It is an irritant for mammals, including humans, and produces a sensation of burning in any tissue with which it comes into contact. Capsaicin and several related compounds are called capsaicinoids and are produced as a secondary metabolite by chili peppers, probably as deterrents against certain herbivores and fungi.[1] Pure capsaicin is a hydrophobic, colorless, odorless, crystalline to waxy compound.

it didn't really burn the inside of my nostril, but I did feel it burning the nostril and around them externally
but, the migraine was that bad

http://osteoarthritis.about.com/od/painrelief/a/capsaicin.htm
"The properties of capsaicin make it an option for relieving pain associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and diabetic neuropathy. Capsaicin is used to relieve muscle pain, joint pain, or nerve pain."

and really initially I thought the pain killing aspect may be due to replacing one pain with searing nostril burning - but the effect was longer lasting

it did give me a heck of a sneezing fit and congestive anti-body type reaction in my sinuses
I would not recommend it if you have severe allergies - definitely

I would recommend it if you don't give a s*** about pissant allergies and need an alternative to putting your head on the road to have your skull run over by traffic to relieve your head from the pain

If that is the case, buying Capsaicin would be much safer. Remember that if an herb can have a healing effect then it must have side-effects as well because of the changes it causes.

Maybe you were stuffed up in your nose but I would suggest everyone not stuff hot chili peppers up their nose.

true
and I'm still a bit egdy and wary from the migraine
so I'm sorry if I came off sounding short

Even if your home remedies are a little out there-I still enjoyed reading about it, and imagining a person sitting with hot pepper in their nose! It is used in muscle pain creams that can be purchased. I for one am a little afraid of it. I like to cook, and can. Many years ago, I decided to can salsa. I did not know that you were suppose to wear gloves to chop the hot pepper. A painful lesson for several hours! It felt just like I had stuck my hands in boiling water! Don't feel bad-I have decided that between the seizures and medicine, I have joined the ranks of being nuts too. Of course not working for the first time in my life, and not knowing what to do is not helping.

My first reaction was how bizarre! Then it was whatever floats your boat... Then the mind over matter thing entered my head. But hey, glad to know it helped your headache.

I think its GREAT that you think out of the box! Ive done crazy things to cope also and if I had been on videotape the past few years they would lock me up and throw away the keys!

Capsaicin has been studied recently for its painkilling properties when applied topically. And some folks recommend cayenne pepper for its effect on circulation -- this could be a reason why the peppers helped with the migraines. It may have other health benefits as well. From http://health.howstuffworks.com/wel...l-remedies/cayenne-pepper-herbal-remedies.htm
You can use cayenne peppers topically as a pain-relieving muscle rub and joint liniment. The source of the heat is capsaicin, the fiery phenolic resin found in most hot peppers. Capsaicin causes nerve endings to release a chemical known as substance P. Substance P transmits pain signals from the body back to the brain.

When capsaicin causes substance P to flood out of the cells, you experience a sensation of warmth or even extreme heat. When the nerve endings have lost all of their substance P, no pain signals can be transmitted to the brain until the nerve endings accumulate more substance P. For this reason, topical cayenne pepper products are popular for the treatment of arthritis, bursitis, and for temporary relief of pain from psoriasis, herpes zoster, and neuralgia (nerve pain). These cayenne preparations are most appropriate for long-standing chronic conditions, not acute inflammations.

As always, proceed with caution with herbal or home remedies...
