On Monday I went into the hospital for an MRI and an EEG to confirm what my neuro already diagnosed me with. I recieved notices in the mail today that said the MRI was normal but the EEG was abnormal with spikes that support seizure activity. I have a ton of questions but my next appointment isnt until December 12th! Anyone know where I will go from here? Will they change my meds? (currently keppra 1500mg) I can say that I have been lucky enough that the Neurologist in Columbus (Ohio) seem to be very understanding and helpful, as I have seen some pretty nasty comments about some of the others around the US.

If your meds are controlling your actual seizures, then it's unlikely that they will need to be changed in any way. If you are still having seizures, and your neurologist suggests medication changes (either in kind or in dose), then you should ask him questions about the meds, side effects, how quickly the ramp-up in dose would go, what to do if you miss a dose, what's the best way to get in touch with him quickly with concerns, etc...

If there's a possibility of remission, you could discuss how long you would stay on meds before considering a taper (usually 2 to 5 years), and if he's had any patients who have successfully gone off meds.

Definitely write down all your questions and concerns or the neuro, and write down the answers too...

I agree with Nakamova. When I had my MRI done in June of this year, it came back normal too. Now my VEEG I had done in March showed spikes and seizure activity. Prior to having my VEEG done, I was taking Carbatrol and Keppra XR. I was on those two medications for over 12 years, and during that time I was having complex partial seizures and grand mal seizures. But when I did my VEEG, I was having simple partial seizures. My dr said it was very possible that over those years my brain matured and I outgrew the complex partials and grand mals. But we cant be for sure. In the meantime, I was put back on just the Keppra XR. So far, Ive been doing good. If the Keppra youre taking now is controlling your seizures, then I would think the dr would just leave it go til your appointment in December. But if you have any seizures, or anything that doesnt seem right in the meantime, I would be giving your neurologist a call and let them know.
