I went from my MRI (3 Tesla high resolution) and halfway through the machine stopped working and they couldn't get it restarted. When I was looking up at the inside of the MRI I kept seeing what looked like light purple shapes. It almost reminded me of when you put a few drops of dye into a glass of water or clear liquid. If I looked towards the wall and refocused it went away. I looked back up inside the MRI back came the purple floating shapes. I don't ever remembering that happening during my last three or four MRIs.

Now I have to wait for another opening to finish the rest of my MRI. The hospital sets aside Tuesdays for neurological related MRIs on the 3T MRI machine. Luckily I work 20 minutes away from the hospital in the event that they have a cancellation. :brain:

What a pain! The same thing happened to me when I had my first epilepsy MRI (the malfunction, not the purple shapes). I had to come back for a second MRI. And I had to pay for both of them! At the time, I was so sick and over-medicated that I didn't realize what had happened and didn't contest the bill. :(

I hope the second MRI goes smoothly.

Luckily being in Canada I don't have to pay for the MRI I just hope it won't take a long time to rebook the second half of the MRI. It was kind of weird seeing the purple shapes floating around. I wonder if that was just my eyes playing tricks on me. It kind of worked to distract me from the noise around me from the MRI. I wonder what my wife would say if I told her I saw purple floating shapes while having my MRI. I'll mention it to my family doctor on Monday when I see her. She might get a good laugh out of it.

The purple blobs that you saw are probably phosphenes. When you go to sleep at night and close your eyes, you will see white patterns. If you rub your eyes, the phosphenes can be really intense. Electrostatic or magnetic fields are capable of producing phosphenes because they stimulate the nerves in your eyes. I would say it's nothing to worry about.

I'm still waiting for the other half of my MRI but I was told so far that it is unchanged from my previous MRIs. It will be interesting when I see my neurologist as to the description of the volume loss and other notes on the Para hippocampal, amygdala and uncus structural defects that are present (right mesial temporal lobe lesion).
