I had a checkup with my psych at 9:45 am today. He asked me how my Mom was (she is terminal and has no more than 2 weeks docs say). Then he asked about my uncle (he had a heart attack about 3 weeks ago w/ on and off horrible problems. Three days ago they repaired a rip from aorta to brain. Lucky to be alive. In ICU). After that he tells me I am to complicated of a case and he wont have me anymore (been my doc 8 years). He says since I moved out of housing is why he wont have me. If I had stayed there they were talking about putting me in assisted care because of last seizures and postical - psychosis. % years ago he made me sign a form (I didn't know it was illegal for him to do at the time) to have ECT's or he would drop me as a psych. I live in a small town (3300) psych comes 1 a week. My councolor is pissed. He never even told her he was doing this. She called me at home and said my case hadn't been closed yet so until they did she will continue seeing me there and if they do close it she will find a way to keep seeing me. She has been great. I have come a long way with my complex PTSD since I met her. She said she doesn't want me going backwards. I called my MD (she doesn't like him) and is getting me in tommarrow. He left me without a rx for lithium and I only have 2 pills left. :soap:

Actually it sounds like you should have dropped the psychologist/psychiatrist a long time ago. Anyone that will threaten you to sign anything or they drop you is not helpful to any medical issue.

It might be scary not having him but it doesn't sound like he has done you much good & you still have your councolor (I assume you meant councillor) who sounds great.

As far as your meds go, do you have a GP who can write your prescription?

You are absolutely right that I should have dumped him long ago. Since having this new councelor(Oct.2013) I have gotten to be well enough that I didn't totally lose it at least. I see my GP tomarrow also. When she found out she took me right in. She doesn't like him either. He even wrote me a script for 60 Xanax to take as needed for the next month. I havnt taken any for a few months. That's how much he knows and pays attention. :(

Wow your psychiatrist sounds like a horrible person[using nice words here instead of the one that came to my mind]. I hope everything works out.

I once asked my family doctor to write a Rx for lamotrigine and he refused, saying he is not supposed to do that since I'm under my neurologist's care. It's stupid, but they don't want any lawsuits against them in case something happens. But the pharmacy was nice enough to give me some pills until I could call my neuro's office. I had been their customer for more than 5 years at the time! So it's always wise to shop at the same pharmacy.

I've had the same pharmacy for 23 years now. lol A year after my ex and I got married. I have had the same GP now for 18 years now so hopefully will have no problem. The pharmacy called my nuero's office today to get 2 refills. He's still on vacation for 1 more week (went for a month). He already had on file for a refill on new med if I was doing well and old med. I was impressed. :)

really sorry to hear this, i've run into shady docs. And the best course of action is to bolt, because they will not provide the help anyone needs. I've made switches in regards to neuros's, MD's, and psychologists. Huge help, instead of wasting time with A holes. Best of luck to you.

Penny,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience with your psych, it sounds like he is an A**hole. It's great to see you have the support of your councelor & other drs.

Is it common for GPs in the USA to not subscribe epilepsy meds if you are under the care of a neuro or does it depend on the GP?

I've always been able to get my epilepsy meds scripts refilled by my GP but it's usually the neurologist who adjusts my meds.

Sorry Penny for all your troubles. As everyone above mentioned, you are better off without this guy! I also went to my gp yesterday. I told her that I hadn't been sleeping well and that I thought that I'd had a seizure last week. I told her my neuro could only see me in July and that I thought it was due to lack of sleep that I had the seiz. She immediately wrote me a script for Trazadone. She wanted to know if I needed more Keppra, (she would have given me script) I am very happy with this dr. I just got her in Feb. thru our new health care system.
ps. trazadone didn't work.

Yes that's the norm here. If your condition is managed by a specialist, the GP won't get involved. The doctors here only want the money. The government should really make healthcare universal!

Thankyou all for your support.

I went and saw my therapist today as she said she would not drop my case. She even told me about the client meeting this morning (every Thursday event). She was not happy when they asked for a review from her Had lots to say.

She wants me to file a grievance against my psych and the board and she is going to help me do it. She said she doesn't know if I will win but it will show them all how much stronger I am than they thought. :)
