Today we contacted the doctor who he is seeing for his tumor on his pituatary gland in his brain. We found out about him having this in September 2011. Since then, he has had 2 MRI's... in sept 2011, and Feb 2012. He was taking Pregnyl to help get his testosterone levels up, since this tumor is affecting those, and it worked great, but was very costly. The dr wanted to increase his dose and we would be looking at paying at least $200 a month. Something we dont have. So we got referred to a specialist who since May 2012, has put him on testosterone shots, once every two weeks. He started out taking 1 ml, then in september, increased it to 1.5ml each shot. Since then, Ive noticed he's starting to gain more weight, be very sluggish, he has no energy and is just tired all the time. He's just going downhill. So we contacted the drs to update them, since his next appointment is not til December 10. We didnt want to wait another month. He has high blood pressure, which he takes medication for, and has two small kidneys. Those alone, along with his weight being so high, is a concern of mine. So, we told this to the doctor this morning. We asked if they could do a blood check to see where his level was at for his testosterone so see if just the .5 increase each shot was doing its job. My gut told me it wasnt. Instead, we get a call back, saying she spoke with the doctor, and he said his concern is that the tumor may be getting larger.
If the increase in medication is not improving things, thats the only thing he could think of was to why its not helping. So he said to go back to the endo dr, and get them to order a MRI since its been almost 10 months since his last one. Suprisingly, we got in today! We go to see the dr today at 4:40pm in Omaha. They need to have us come into the office to update them on whats been going on, since the last time we saw them was in January. Then they said they would order a MRI to be scheduled. The last time they said the tumor was too small to be removed, There was more risk in taking it out, than just leaving it and treating it with medication.
Now Im afraid of what if its getting bigger? We did find a hospital in AZ that removes these types of tumors. but again, its another state, and were in the process of getting all of his medication information to them. We heard one dr faxed everything over, were just waiting on two more drs.
Im just stressed and worried. I hope everything goes well and we get the answers we need so we can get things going better for him.
