Yesterday I had an appointment with my GP. He finally sent off a referral to the Epilepsy center, which I am very glad about, however it was weird because I told him that his receptionist was rude to me and I told him that I called several times requesting a referral and he didn't seem to know what I was talking about, nor did he seem to care. But I have the referral and that's what's important.

Now I am encountering a bit of trouble with my mother. I told her last night that I am going to see a neuro and she got a little bit mad at me. I even showed her one time when my arm was jerking out of control and she didn't think it was a big deal. Now she has got me rethinking myself. A few weeks ago I made a list of symptoms to bring up with the neuro. If I posted here would somebody tell me if I'm crazy or not? Or maybe PM would be better?

Personally I believe that even if you are not sure about whether or not you have eplepsy it would be the proper thing to do to ask a professional who specialises in that field (a neurologist) to let you know for sure either way.

From what you've bee saying you probably do but even if you don't you'll know for sure.

Buffheart, you're welcome to post your symptom list here, but as Eric says, a professional should be able to give a more definitive and educated take on things.

I am going to see a professional. I just thought you guys might be able to say if I'm wasting my time like my mother believes.

I don't think you're wasting your time at all.

Thanks:) When people start to doubt me I automatically start to doubt myself.

I don't see how confirming anything about your health can be a waste of time.

I agree! I would do just as you are doing, and go to a neurologist and get their opinion on things. Do what your gut tells you to do :)

next time something happens to your mom, say a cold, and she is pointing that out to you, just tell her she is fine and that she is wasting your time. I bet that puts a different volume on her tone :)

Other people can be so helpful. It is your body and your health. You are the one in charge. If it doesn't feel right to you, then it probably isn't. This way you will know for sure. Let us know how it works out!

I don't think you are wasting your time. I think you must have as much information about your health as you can.

That said, you also have to understand that there are some doctors that are going to find the easiest route to get you in and out quickly. My daughters first neurologist told me things that later I found not to be true. I am not sure if he is just not well informed, or what. He told me diet plays no role in seizure disorders, and he told me that hormones play no role either. Both statements I found to be incorrect after I began my education on the subject.

I would recommend that you get the best advice you can, and then some more if the first makes no sense.

p.s. - I also dislike rude and incompetent medical staff. So unprofessional. Thankfully there are choices and you don't have to put up with it. Just make sure you don't get your file flagged as being a difficult patient.

Got a call yesterday and the women told me I had the set up an appointment to see a neurologist before I could see an epileptologist (sp?). The reason I have a see a regular neurologist first is because my GP only put headaches/migraines on my referral. Oh well, I'm just glad I finally have an appointment, which is on Monday November 28th.
