Does anyone taking Neurontin have this problem? I have had Interstitial Cystitis for years which causes urinary frequency but I can usually figure out what triggers it but lately nothing I do makes any difference. For the last few weeks I've noticed it starts at night after I take my med & lasts until about 3 am. I thought Neurontin was supposed to calm nerve endings not make it worse. The only way I will know for sure is to stop my night dose but I don't want to do that. Just wonder if anyone else has this problem? Thanks.

According to https://www.hindawi.com/journals/crinm/2015/341573/ gabapentin can in rare cases cause urinary incontinence. I realize you're not suffering from incontinence, rather from over-frequency, but the study at the link offers this conclusion that might be relevant:

It is thought that GABA B receptors have a minor effect on normal relaxation of the striated urethral sphincter and as such we think that in some patients gabapentin may cause incontinence via over relaxation of the external sphincter via excessive influence of GABA B. Physicians administering gabapentin should inform patients about the potential for gabapentin-induced incontinence.

Listed side effects for gabapentin include: "vaginal pain, urinary incontinence, nocturia (bed wetting), urinary tract infections."

Thanks Nakamova, I had not seen those studies. Neurontin has been the only drug I can take for migraines & partial seizures because of allergies. I'm afraid my luck has run out.

It might be worth checking with your GP to see if there's anything else you can do.

It IS weird, because Neurontin is sometimes prescribed for overactive bladder. But maybe it's similar in that way to Dilantin, which can both cause peripheral neuropathy and also treat it.

Hello. I took Neurontin a long time ago--in conjunction with Dilantin. It never caused any problems like that for me.

Thanks Sabbo! I did not take my PM dose of Neurontin & think it is the problem with my urinary urgency. I did not sleep much and did have to get up a few times but not so urgent I didn't think I would make it to the bathroom.
