So remember I asked about anxiety (maybe fatigue too) etc. and med side effects? I finally went to the dr. and I do like my new neurologist so far. She listened to all my complains, read all my paperwork and the sheet I took in with what I remember of my seizure history (and she was pleased that I did that). Then she ordered tests... my trileptal is low, though she said they did the wrong test, something about metabolized or something and wasn't sure how that affected the test results...but decided to let me go on current level since it seems to work for me.

Then she tells me my thyroid number is way off and I am hypo and have to go to another dr. and get the rest of the thyroid tests and medication. So down this road we'll go. Hopefully it'll give me enough energy to keep from falling asleep every 10 minutes. And maybe I'll quit wanting to yell at my husband, too.

Sigh...more pills to take.

Wow, that is a hard place to be; but who knows, she may be on to something. You may actually have an issue that thyroid help could make you feel better. Who knows? Best of luck.

A lot of folks on here with E also have hypothyroid. I've had it now for over 25 years and taken a little pill for it along with my AED's. I also go to an endocrinologist who takes care of my hormones and my diabetes, too. Not only more pills to take, but more needles to endure.........

I'm sorry you have a new diagnosis but glad you have a good doctor who found it! I replace all of the endocrine and adrenal hormones with pills, patch, shot and if any one of them gets too high or too low it makes a big difference in how I feel and I think even in how many seizures I have, so I think you are going to feel A LOT better once treated.

Hi, I hear ya.
It is proper procedure to have thyroid tested yearly with epilepsy, and tho hypo runs in my family my levels have always been normal. However last time I had my routine tests done (august), my hypo was low and she wanted me on Synthroid that day.
Well, hold on there bessie (totally love my doc :)), I am not just going to start throwing more drugs down the gullet based on some paperwork (one time a few years ago the same thing happened and I said the same thing - and that I'd have the test done again in six months to be sure). Well, wouldn't ya know it, the second one came back normal. She said sometimes the lab does get it wrong. So, this time I'll do the same. Doubt I'll get lucky twice in a row, but why over-med when there's a chance.
Plus, as I'm going into the seizure unit next month and taken down/off my meds, I really don't want anything else f'ing with my body.
Pls for your sake take some time and make sure you are actually hypo, as it is for life and they need to be sure (use me as an example, the lab was wrong).

Unfortunately tho I must be honest, I think even if positive I'll still yell at my boyfriend... ;)

i hypo thyroid,i sorry but you still shout at husband but not feel so tired doing it..mine is opposite to towngirl kept coming back normal but they were not it turned out be pituarty problem but same treatment tyroxine .....it reduced the pain my whole body felt

Thanks everybody. As much as I'd like this to be a false lab test, I actually had 2 drs. order this test based on the symptoms I told them. I have a bunch of the symptoms for this. My hair's thinner, I am unable to tolerate cold, extreme exhaustion. So my guess is this is right. I was wondering if there was a possibility it would get better on its own, but that's not what I read on the INet. I certainly will ask the dr. wednesday.
