Hi! I'm going to go by Garbo for right now, but that is obviously not my real name. ;) I was diagnosed with epilepsy (LTLE, partial complex seizures) in fall of 2004 shortly after starting my freshman year of college. After four degree changes, I am finally achieving my degree this semester (a month away!).

I currently take keppra, although I find it doesn't work as well as it used to. I've also taken dilantin and neurontin as well as occasionally ativan and valium. I have seizures relatively often (depending on my stress level), however, I try not to let this get me down. I'm very outdoorsy and even own a horse (she does very well with the seizures, probably better than my neurologist! Ha).

So, yes, that is me. :)

Hi, Garbo!

Welcome, and I'm glad you've joined us. There's a lot of nice people in here, with lots of good knowledge to share.

Congratulations on your degree! I know it took a lot of hard work, especially while dealing with TLE.

Thank you! I'm excited to read posts and "meet" people. :D

Yes, it's certainly been a trip! I plan on writing a book entitled, "Dumb Things I Have Done (and gotten away with) in the Hospital." ;) But it's all good and I feel that it's made me a better person.

Hey, lets hear about some of those dumb things now! I could use a good chuckle. Or are they the kind of things that are more the tragic-type? Still post... we'll commiserate and give lots of sympathy. :)

I have some funny ones. In September I was in the ER and I was given ativan and when I tried to get up, I ran right into the wall. The nurse also came in with restraints and was joking he was going to have to restrain me to the bed (he actually put bars up so I didn't flip myself out of the bed). Then my friend and I played with the crash cart in attempts for me to get discharged. ;) I actually have photographic evidence of that.

A few weeks ago I was in again and the doctor gave me morphine (I have no idea why). My sister said one of my veins sprung a leak and I was slinging blood everywhere, saying, "Hey, it's pink lemonade!" Oh, morphine.

A year ago I was in the hospital for toxicity and my roommate was coming off of (illegal) drugs. She ran naked through our room several times and I finally asked my nurse if I could hang out with her. ;) Hehe.

Care to share some of your own?

Hi Garbo - my daughter began having seizures the summer before her freshman year of HS.
We tried the med rollercoaster and they only made matters worse. Now we do a combination of strict nutritional choices, vitamins and minerals for brain and body health, and she has done about a year of neurofeedback. Her seizure threshold is improving with time as her body heals. It is interesting to witness.

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Rebecca is also graduating from HS this June.
