I finally got a call back yesterday from epileptologist office stating they think they found a neuropsych to treat me. So I went online and did a little research on the doc and his profile does not have him listed as a neuropsych and he doesn't specialize in epilepsy patients but according to his bio he is a family therapist. I'm not too happy about this, however they told me he comes highly recommended from another psychologist associated with the hospital I had my VEEG at. On the other hand I seen my primary yesterday for my fibro and since I had a bad reaction to savella he now says he has to find unconventional ways to treat me. I explained I am still searching for a neuropsych and the one he referred me to didn't have any idea what I was talking about so I'm still searching. He suggested I check out UCLA AND USC hospitals to see if there is a doc.there who can help me because they are research hospitals. It will be out of my way bcuz I don't live in LA but it may be worth the trip in order to get the right treatments. I left messages for 2 docs at each hospital hoping to get a call back. Now I don't know what to do since I was referred to this other doc, do I have to make the appearance? I have a ppo insurance which means I can see a different doc if I choose, but is it going against medical advice? I need a doc, but I wanna make sure I'm going to the right one or the best one to treat me.

Marlena,

Everybody's insurance has different rules, even though they are all PPOs. Call your insurance's customer service line and ask them if you have to follow your doc's advice and go see the less qualified person. My guess is no. You are in charge of your own healthcare and can choose anyone you want that is in-network. But do call.

I agree with Endless, We also have a PPO insurance. My neurologist referred me to a psych dr, who I went to, but according to my insurance, just because he referred me to her, didnt mean I had to go. I could have always went to another dr, but do check with your insurance.
