Update on the lazydoc visit -- despite him having a copy of nightfighter's seizure diary, despite a team of p-docs saying he's experiencing seizures, lazydoc still refuses to believe nightfighter is experiencing seizures. Huh? How does that work?

At least he's agreed to lower the Effexor, but waaaaaayyyyyyy faster than recommended, like it's nothing to stop it after a decade on it *shakes head* We're going to take it at our own pace.

Next step -- give the neurologist a copy of the seizure diary and request a follow-up with more tests. We'll see how that goes.

Hmmm. If he wants to play the whole "I'm a doctor, what are you?" game, then look and him and say. "They're specialists, what are you? oh thats right. a general doctor, with general knowledge. and if your not planning on listening to those in the medical feild who are more knowledgable than you, then you need to step aside and maybe pump gas for a living. Jerk."

something to that extent anyway. Just to make him realize that someone who knows more than him in those areas is right. not him. he cant be dismissive.

Can't you just get rid of lazydoc and maybe find a tepiddoc or maybedoc?

It's up to nightfighter what he wants to do. I would prefer an unresistantdoc, or intrigueddoc  I think he may be ready to change docs. We'll see.

Yes Inaara, lazydoc is a moron. I no longer have any doubt.

Rae -- I'm debating whether to waste more energy on lazydoc (aside from reporting his incompetent a**, of course), or if we should just start fresh.

well I'd say start fresh.
Old habits die hard, and from the sounds of his RateMD page, he has had those habits for a long time. You cant teach an old, lazy, incompentant, rude, ignorant, self worshipping dog new tricks.

Wow. Rae, can I steal this and modify it slightly and use it on someone at the VA? *snicker*

lamotrigine 300
effexor 150
taken 9:15

Sleep was calm, both falling asleep and early in the morning. Nice!

Had vision probelms today -- blurry vision on and off all day, and crossed eyes a few times in the afternoon.

Nothing noticeable this evening, althoug he did complain of abdominal pain growing, but it wasn't long-lasting, or as severe as usual (not sure which), and he got tired afterwards. It's 9 and he's already asleep, snroing mildly and not twitching. Yay! Small victories! Hope this lasts and gets better.

When he first fell asleep, he was calm, but 1/2 hour in he began to scratch and smack his lips and pump his legs. At one point he lifted his legs and dropped them back down on the bed. It wasn't as big and disruptive as other nights, but it's still going on.

Woke up feeling angry and starey. Has had two longer staring spells already, and he's only been up less than 1/2 an hour. Also woke up with dizziness and nausea, and, apparently now comes the abdominal pain too.

Thursday and Friday aren't as accurate as they could be. Nightfighter didn't feel like re-hashing his days then, so I have to record what little I remember from conversations with him, and what I saw (not much, except the sleep stuff)

lamotrigine 300
effexor 150
taken 10 am

Slept all day. When he was awake he had episodes of blurry vision and crossed-eyes and perception changes (objects too small). Evening was okay when I came home. I didn't notice anything. His movements and experiences are changing at night as well. He's been having nightmares again, which worries me, because when he started the lamotrigine they stopped entirely. Now he's gettingt hem again, and they're violent, but a different violent. They used to be all about the Viet Nam war, now it's about people trying to kill him, but for bizarre reasons (like because only has a blue pen but no red pen). Are these a return to his original nightmares, which means the lamotrigine isn't working for some reason, or are these dreams because of the lamotrigine.

This night he would moan, rub his feet together, especially his big toe against the second toe of his foot, and so hard it's noisy. He curled his toes, then straightens his legs into a ski jump then rhythmically jerked his arms/shoulders. This went on for a while.

lamotrigine 300
effexor 150
taken 9:30 am

Same as yesterday -- slept all day,and when he did wake up, he had episodes of blurred vision or crossed eyes and perception changes (both objects too big, his body too big). Also, he;s been getting the neck thing a lot lately. I noticed it in the evening when I came home.

Otherwise, he seemed okay in the evening.

At night he woke me three times with yelling obscenities. He would yell, then bicycle with his legs in a hard stomp and move his arms and then wake up himself. He didn't know he had been yelling.

lamotrigine 300
effexor 150
taken 10:30 am

Woke up with nausea, dizziness, perception changes (he was big, objects were normal. He can find humour in it now). Lots of losing balance out of the blue, also crossed eyes.

One thing to say about lamotrigine is that it has leveled out his moods again. It's not that he doesn't get moods, it's just that they aren't as sticky. They come and go. Anyway, today we went to the farmer's market, and he was so delighted, like a little kid. He hasn't gotten out much lately, so changes are nice. After about two-hours he was in pain from his back, but otherwise seemed fine. I didn't see much beyond a few stares during the day, which is a given. It was nice.

Evening seemed okay. Falling alseep he bicycled with one legs (the right) then about 5 minutes later bicycled both legs and flailed his arms and hit the wall again. He fell alseep and I saw his face grimace and twitch (it's weird, because he twitches individual muscles sometimes). He got up from 2-6 because of nightmares.

lamotrigine 300
effexor 150
taken 10 am

Woke him up at 9:45. He has some dizziness and nausea (mild) and severe pain in his right foot from cramping. So far eyes are okay, perception is okay.

I was gone for most of the day, so I didn't see anthing. he didn't complain of anything when I got home. Does that mean nothing happened? Fat chance. I'll have to quiz him later today, although his memory is probably full of holes. He did have some energy and more focus during the day, and was able to play guitar. Yay!

Going to sleep seemed calm, although, I fell asleep before he did, so I didn't witness anything.

I would guess that the change to his dreams is from the Lamotrigine. For the first couple of months that I was on it, I had crazy disturbing dreams and nightmares. And very light restless sleep, waking up many times throughout the night. This is a pretty common side effect, but also one that tends to go away once you have been stable on the med for awhile. Hang in there!

*fingers crossed* that it's just the lamotrigine. I'll let nightfighter know that it could be just that. We're switching to brand name lamictal when we refill the prescription this week. We'll see if it continues, and if it helps with some of the night-time activity too.

effexor 150
taken ??

Just before he woke up, I noticed some grimacing and scratching. When he woke up, he said his arms were in agony, all cramped up. No waking up from nightmares last night. yay! No noticeable stares before I left for work. Maybe the lower Effexor and higher lamotrigine are starting to take effect? *fingers crossed*

I spoke with him about his arms, and he doesn't remember waking up with hurting arms. I even rubbed them for him to help uncramp them -- no recall of it at all. He complained of agonizing pain below the waist. He's come to the conclusion it isn't because of his back, because he had several days without that pain, and figured if it was dur to his back he'd have it all the time and not sporadically.

He didn't tell me about anything else he experienced, but he did nap yesterday, and was napping when I came home.

yup I'm gonna say that lamictal=dreams. same happened for me too. Sadly I dont have dreams on Dilantin. except that one wierd one with upside down houses and aliens.

Holy hannah it's been a while since I've been here, and yet things have not drastically changed for us on the health front. We both needed a break from everything E-related after the last disappointment with the GP who refused to believe that nightfighter has seizures.

Nightfighter's doctor was more understanding yesterday though, and he may be accepting that there is something odd going on with him... but still no recognition that nightfighter needs to be sent to a different neurologist *sigh*

We've been weaning him of the Effexor very, very slowly. As of the end of this week, he will be on the dose just before completely quitting Effexor. It's been a difficult run, because he definitiely suffers under the withdrawal, but we hope once it's cleared from his system he'll do okay. If not, the doc has at least said we can choose what AD to try next -- Tegretol is out first choice. Maybe that will help.

We're in the process of moving and painting the new apartment, so we're both exhausted and overworked, so nightfighter had a superbad day yesterday as a result. He lost a lot of time in weird backwards/forwards gaps (he kept looking at the time, and it went from 11:25 to 1:17 at which point he was upset because he had missed his doc's appointment,. the it was 11:45) and then forgot where he was and where he was going on his way to the doc's appointment. At least they didn't last long and he made it to the doc.

Anyhoo, what's up with all-you-all? What's new?

Hi occb, thanks for the update, I was wondering how life was treating you guys! I'm sorry the progress has been infinitesimal, but I'm glad the Effexor is on it's way out.

I hope you can paint with low-VOC paint. It's healthier.
What color(s) are you using?

Hehe! I was just thinking about you the other day & wondering where you'd gone to!

Thanks for the update, wish things were progressing more smoothly for y'all. But as Nak said, glad the Effexor is going bye-bye.

And yeah - what colors?! :D

We definitely used low VOC paint. The colours are a soft mossy green, a pale creamy yellow, and cream instead of white. Very zen and relaxing. In fact, the green is called 'restful' and the yellow is called 'quiet veranda', and the cream is 'yellow mist'. I think we know what we're needing in our lives lol

Feel free to hijack the thread to talk about yourselves. I don't have much time to visit online right now, so I'll be stopping by here and there to catch up on what's going on with all of you.

I'm sneaking in the site during breaks from work -- we moved last week and we still don't have access to the wifi network from nightfighter's brother upstairs. Boo! I am netless at home.

On the up-side, the light is much friendlier for nightfighter at the new place, plus theres a lot of garden to work with -- one of his favourite hobbies. He's been going non-stop since we moved, despite back pain. It makes a nice change from the static life he led at the old apartment. Yay!

A garden is great. Even a tiny patch of green to look at is very soothing to the soul.
