Found out a few weeks ago I'm pregnant, great news but also scary. Has anyone else who has been pregnant actually had an improvement in Epilepsy symptoms? I havent had any partials and I even forgot to take a tablet once. Usually I'd have at least one seizure and nothing this time. I'm not game enough to go off the Lamictal but, it's really strange. I thought it would get worse...

Congrats on your pregnancy :).
I have never had children so can't help you with your questions but Im sure other members will be able to help you.

Congrats

on the pregnancy... :D It's a great thing

I was on completely different meds when I had my kids back in the dark ages, lol.

However, it would seem that your hormones are helping out a bit in stabilizing your seizures if you missed a dose--either that OR your meds have a long half-life (can't remember what Lamictal's is....I should know that, I'm on it..)

However, do be careful as the pregnancy goes on. The baby's size will cause your med levels to possibly fluctuate. Please make sure that all of your docs--GP, neuro & gyno--are all talking to each other and on the same page. Communication between them is vital.

Have a great day, and many pleasures of a happy little one to you!

Going through old posts.... wow
Update:
I have a healthy 2.5 year old 😊
Unfortunately, pregnancy and childbirth were both pretty rough. At about 20 weeks I had a couple of partial seizures and after that I was constantly sick. I didn't have seizures, but had perpetual morning sickness. I had high blood pressure, which the obstetrician was concerned about, because of the epilepsy. I was induced at 39 weeks .... and after 13 hours labour and 4 partial seizures, I had an emergency cesarean. It is all a blur to me, I think because of the seizures I was oblivious to the seriousness of the situation. It wasn't until the pediatrician walked in to examine my baby a few hours after, I realised how lucky I was. He looked at my perfectly healthy baby in disbelief and basically told us that he'd seen the same situation before.... with a much different outcome. I was blissfully unaware, I'd actually almost died and lost my baby. I was actually just unlucky and even though I had the partials, epilepsy was not the reason for my complications.

I've been seizure free for about a year, I've stopped doing weird stuff in my sleep too. Get a lot of headaches and migraines though... which suck when you're trying to look after a toddler. Despite headaches, I'm actually the healthiest I've been since been diagnosed. Hopefully things stay that way 😊

Hey Crunchyfrog
I remember you posting that you were pregnant and always wondered how things went.
Sorry to hear the pregnancy and birth were rough but great to hear the baby is healthy and going well.

Did you have a boy or girl?

Also congrats on being 12 months seizure free :woot:.. Hope you can find a way to help control / reduce the migraines.

I recall what pregnancy was like for me. My first was a REAL shocker. I was on the pill at the time, & in my last semester of college! Thankfully, I didn't have any of those morning sickness or weird craving issues. The only AED I took at the time was Dilantin, as I only had Simple Partials.
Even my second pregnancy went the same way--but that one was planned. During it I was taking Topamax & Dilantin, since I began having Complex Partials, too.
