I’m coming off of Tegretol – was on 800mg, now on 400mg, I’m also on Clonazepam 5mg. Since the reduction in Tegretol, 200mg a month since November, I have been waking up with painful thumb joints and now painful finger joints. On one occasion I heard the top of my left thumb ‘click’ back in to place. Could this be ‘epilepsy’ related, meds related or the on set of arthritis?

is it only when you wake up? and are there any other symptoms? eg. fatigue, headache

Hi! It's not necessary just when I wake up- if I put pressure on the left thumb in particular during the course of the day I do get some pain. Yes to headaches and fatigue- I sleep most of the day and night with some broken sleep at night. All of my seizures are nocturnal and I am aware when I am having seizures (unless of course I'm having them and not knowing!).

I should add that I have been on Quetiapine since June- 500mg. I have put on two stones- I find it difficult to dress because my tummy has increased in size and my muscles seem weaker.

I am getting sores between my legs even though I am very conscious of good hygiene and my groin area smells terrible (sorry folks, have to be honest!)- I lay on my bed and open my legs wide to freshen up and apply talc four times daily. I’m having to go to charity shops to purchase larger size clothing as my usual wardrobe is full of clothes that don’t fit. I don’t seem to get time with the doctor to mention these things because my allotted time is spent talking about my seizures.

anti-nuclear-antibody. i was having similar symptoms in june. sore joints but it was worse when i just woke up. and severe fatigue and headaches. i was diagnosed with lupus. i'm not saying that's what you have, but it's worth getting it checked.
