I am not diagnosed but am having tests to see if I have simple partial seizures. I was in the park today with three people I have met through walking our dogs at the same time, so I know them but not really well, we all just happened to be there at the same time so were walking together and having a chat. I had one of my episodes (déjà vu and fear being the main symptoms) and stopped dead and said ' sorry, sorry, ermm, can someone count to ten with me please' (this is to help take my mind off it until it passes). Luckily they were lovely, one counted to ten and one said immediately 'are you having an absence? Are you epileptic? I am epileptic so I understand' and then when I said I was getting tests and it was déjà vu and fear, the man who was counting with me held my hand to help me feel safe! Well it passed and I was so pleased they were so kind and understanding and also interested that someone with epilepsy witnessed it and immediately thought it was a seizure. It does lend wait to the theory that is what it is. The woman who has epilepsy gave me her phone number incase I ever needed her to walk my dog if I felt unwell, so, so kind. She has tonic clonics and has had times people have just stepped over her in the street, so she was keen to show compassion and understanding I think.
Anyway I just wanted to share my experience as it was scary yet gave me hope that people can be kind when you need them to be:p

aww how lovely, people can be kind infact most are kind think the problem is wqe just here about the bad rather then the good as people are more quick too shout about the bad

That's very true Maisy, that's partly why I wanted to give a shout out to the nice people at my park :)

That is a wonderful story, thanks for sharing it! Give them all hugs from us next time you meet up with them :)

Well funnily enough the guy who held my hand and counted with me was walking his husky! So husky owners are just obviously good people ;)

shonafrances,
It is always great to hear stories like that, it shows that there are still some caring people out there.

:agree:
So nice to hear about the good side of humanity.

Yes, there are nice people out there. I've had TC's in public several times. One time I was out for a walk in a public park and went into the seizure. When I was coming out of the seizure and was lying on the ground, still paralyzed but beginning to understand what was being said, I realized numerous people were standing over me and I heard someone say, "Shouldn't we call 911?" And someone else said, "No. She's coming out of it. She'll be ok." This same person knew what to do because her best friend growing up had epilepsy.

And you never know when you may cross paths with someone having a seizure. My daughter said she saw someone in a Target store where she used to work go into a seizure. And because of her experience of witnessing me having seizures, she knew what to do. I witnessed someone go into a seizure at a bookstore once, and a bunch of fools were just looking at him. So I helped him out. Some day, you may be the kind one. ;)

I guess it is only when things like this happen that you realise how many people are affected by epilepsy. I thanked them al again today and they were like 'you don't need to keep thanking us, it's fine!' bless them.
