So far down the line Ive tried tegretol and Neurontin. I guess we count Lamictal too but thats prescribed for Bipolar.

I still take tegretol and lamictal.

I know for sure the tegretol has made a difference but I still dont have full seizure control and infact lately its been getting worse. Even got to the point where I cant drink any coffee at all .. or even smoke one cigarette...its awful.. Im having to quit...but thats probably a good thing anyway.

Yesterday I started topomax. 100mg am and 100mg pm

Was wondering if anyone with TLE had any luck with this medicine or if anyone had any bad side effects I should know about.

Thanks

I take Topomax-- 100 mgs.-a.m., 100 mgs.-p.m. along with Keppra. It can cause weight loss and make one's memory worse, depending on the dosage. It's also know as Dopamax.

Hi, Vapour,

Lamictal is used for TLE seizure control, too, as well as Bipolar. But I think the dosages are different for the two disorders.

Topamax... I loved it for the weight control, and it didn't make me sleepy. But unfortunately it made me very, very, very sad. Depressed to the bottom of my soul. I had to go off it. Most people don't get this way, though.

Most people DO kinda quit eating, or at least want to quit. It makes food taste funny, takes away the apetite, can make you nauseated, and can make you lose your ability to think how to cook the food. Cint wasn't kidding about the "Dopamax" Somewhere in the forum someone posted about the manufacturer looking to get Topamax approved for weight loss. Well, it does work for that. I lost 20 lbs in 1 month. My question is for people with epilepsy, what do they do when they SHOULDN'T lose any more weight? I found a few foods that still tasted good to me, like anything heavily infused with garlic. I guess long-term users would just need to become a fan of italian food.

I took Topomax for one day to try to control my migraines. I took it with food, and yet it made me dizzy to the point that I could barely crawl into bed, and it made me nauseous. So far, I'm the only one I've read about that that's happened to, but just be aware that it may make you a bit tipsy.
