I know this is a pretty old thread but I really need to vent about it!!!

I know just about everyone has a cell phone now and there's a ton of things that are very useful on them. I know I will play games on mine and I'll be on the internet. My brother, 40 years old, really drives me crazy with his though with his, like before but even worse now.

He can't put the phone down. He can actually hold on a conversation with people while he's looking at his phone typing away. I'd like someone to look at me when I'm talking to them. My mom asked him a while ago what he was doing on there all the time? Face book, Twitter or something else. He said it was just somethings his friends do. Didn't say what though.

I'm the only one who's said something to him about it. Of course I get yelled at for it. I said something to my parents when he wasn't there. My mom said it's normal because people are always on their phones (remember he's 40 not 13). My dad said that it is but not like my brother does. It just went in one ear and out the other with my mom.

Two weeks ago my parents had him and his wife over for dinner. They were there for about 2 hours. The only time he wasn't on his phone was when he was eating. As soon as he was done he got up from the table, went into the living room and got on his phone.

I've told my parents that I can't stand it and they said to just go eat, or what ever we were doing, some where else. Not sure if they actually meant it or were just sick of me saying things about him . We had a picnic over the weekend. When he got there BOOM out comes the cell phone while talking with everyone. I gave him 10 minutes to get off and he never did. I got up and went into the house slamming the door. I was so ticked off I felt like I was going to explode. It went into my room and strained out my sock drawer trying to calm down. Didn't work though. May have made it even worse.

My mom let me know when it was time to eat I went out, got a plate of food then went back into the house to eat. I went back out to get seconds but all the good stuff was gone. They were on dessert so I got some of that then went back into the house, slamming doors behind me like before. Don't know if anyone said anything about all of this or not.

I fell asleep and woke up two hours later and everyone was gone, even my brother. I was so ticked off that I couldn't be out there because of him!!!!!

Having another picnic this weekend and there are going to be around 15 people there. Let's see if he can put it down then!?!?

Dang, does he carry an extra battery for that thing?

Phone use didn't really bother me much until a few years ago, my 16 yr old is glued to his. If he's not at the computer (which he is most of the day gaming) he's on it. What frustrates me most is when I get him out of the house to do something he is on it. Can't even have a decent conversation in the car because he will just get irritable.

Weird your parents don't care.

I see so many people looking down instead of looking up they are so busy texting on their phones it drives me crazy.
Some people don't know how to live without their phones and when I was at school I asked my students what a rotary
dial phone was and how to use it and they were all lost they didn't know the first thing about them.
It seems like since the computer and cell phone world have come out families and friends don't have time to visit
like they used to and I miss those days when family and friends would stop by on the weekends right out of the blue.
In a medical study that was done where I had brain surgery they have found that using a cell phone to much each
day will shrink the hippocampus of the brain and cause short term memory problems. I only use the phone when
I need to get ahold of family/friend for emergency and I'm not home.
We should dare our family/friends to go 24 hrs. without using their phone and see how they would do. I know
I'm seeing a lot of court cases on cell phone bills and that's not looking good for some people.
Here's wishing all of you only the best and May God Bless You!

Sue

I'm constantly telling my younger son (he's 13) to put his down/leave it alone for at least 5 minutes. From the minute he gets up until he goes to bed he's either on it or on his computer. I constantly remind him that he can live for a few hours without it. We have a rule--no screens at the dining table.

I'm 34 so i had just left school when people were beginning to get their own phones, and if they did it was usually too expensive to use the internet on it. So i see the best and worst of both worlds. On one hand they're extremely useful, but on the other, i don't like being expected to be available and contactable 24 hours a day. Being connected all the time is exhausting! Then of course if i don't reply i get loads of messages or phone calls to check i'm alright, when i was just taking a nap or something. I have a do not disturb on my phone now from ten in the evening, and tell people i'll get back to them when i get around to it. My dad is terrible for sitting playing candy crush on his phone when he should be spending time with his grandson, and that does drive me nuts, especially when he complains he doesn't see him enough.

On another note, i'm so glad camera phones weren't about when i was a teenager! No pictoral evidence exists of all the shenanigans we got up to

OMG I second that! I'm so old, that in my day, sexts we're sent via Pony Express...

I skipped school a lot, wouldn't be able to do that now..lol.

One thing about taking pictures on your cell is that unless you transferred the pix to something else, when the cell goes then the pix does to.

I've got boxes of pix of things that I've done and I love looking at them. Since my memory isn't that great I have to ask where I'd been in the picture and who the people who they are in it. A really funny one was there were a good many pictures of me and a guy. I asked my mom who he was and she told me that he had been one of my boyfriends! I remembered being in the relationship with him but had no clue what he looked like. Got a good laugh about that!

I feel nothing beats a handwritten letter or card. I was always a great pen-pal with my cousins until the internet took over. I like to save letters & cards that I receive. In my collection, I have letters that my maternal grandmother sent me, & she passed away over 20 years ago.

i feel bad about facebook about stuff like that, because i know i slept with a bunch of people on my friends list over the years, i just dont remember who all, and a few people it is embarrassing to ask, because it is just insulting to tell someone you dont remember sleeping with them,

It's funny (in a bad way). My PARENTS (of all people) seem to be more addicted than me! I'll go to the living room and BOTH of them will be doing something with their phones. My dad will be checking his email. He's even gotten addicted to FB (which I've stopped using over a year ago) and I have to sneak by because he might try to read off 10+ memes that he thinks I will find funny 🙄. My mom will be looking at different things (usually something on houses/decorations). Or they'll be playing a game of some sort. Meanwhile the tv will also be on and I come in to say something (sometimes something as simple as asking how's it going? Or Anything good on tv? etc). They'll have been so much into their phones that I have to repeat myself and THEN they'll notice me and I have to repeat it AGAIN! Same thing if I’m watching tv with them. I'll make a comment on what WE are watching. No response... Sure enough, they have their phones out. Huh? Did you say something (or not hear me at all as mentioned above). "Never-mind..." No really! What did you say?? "Nothing..." Since I get tired of repeating myself, I've learned to look over before I ask/tell them something. They'll both be texting their friends (my mom's work and my dad's military buddies). With my mom having to work at home, she has (wants) to text her girl friends to find out what the latest gossip is. Funny, because before she'd have to stay late and finish work. Nope. Turns out she was too busy talking before she got home. However, now she texts them and things don't get done. Point being, I feel everyone's pain.

My husband has been working from home since last year. Right now both of my sons are home--the high school will have a blended remote/onsite learning setup. My older son may have to go back to U of I--if the class he is a Teacher's Assistant for will definitely in person. The classes he's taking are online. All 3 of them are constantly on their phones.

I think I could have wrote this because it's exactly the same as my parents!

They practically live off of Face Book. When I look at them they are always on their phone or tablet doing something, usually Face Book. I'm constantly hearing the videos. They'll show me something or ask if I've seen it because it was posted by another family member, guess the whole family might be addicted. I almost never use Face Book, only to get on and see what a few of my friends are doing, then I'm off. Takes about 15 minutes.

I'll admit that I do text a good bit, but my parents do now too! It's usually easier to get a hold of them by texting than it is calling.

I got on Face Book today to see what a few of my friends are doing. These are the ones who almost never post and when they it's only posts of what they are doing, like birthday pix or things about their kids. Not all the goofy pictures and jokes.

When I got on today I started laughing. I saw a post from my aunt, who's in her 60's. It said about the things kids when she was a kid. Like play outside, ride bikes, write notes to each other and things like that. Ah, isn't she an adult who sits inside at home playing on her phone half the time? For some reason I don't think that adults did things other than that back then either?

Cell phone is used for valid work issues so have to have it with me all the time but when I am somewhere as a guest I do keep it on vibrate out of respect. :) - Sue

I work as a receptionist so find it professional to have my phone on silent/ vibrate. I only work 3 days but never bother taking it off silent lol.
Not many people ring me anyway but I get alot of alerts for when I have a message sor email.

I am a quality assurance specialist for a federal client full time and will just say there are many times I don't bother going to issues because of work as I know what takes priority. All I'm going to say on the matter.
