I was on Lamictal XR 150 mg until last month when I switched to the generic to save money. Since the name brand was extended release, is it safe to assume the generic is not? The generic is still 150 mg but I'm wondering how long a single dose stays in my system and if maybe I should cut the pills in 1/2 and take 75 mg twice a day instead...???

I hope I made sense. :p

Thanks in advance.

There is an extended-release form of generic Lamotrigine, so you should be able to continue with that form if you prefer it. If you are not receiving the XR form of the generic, ask your doc/pharmacist about that option.

I'm on the regular generic (not the extended-release version), and I take my dose twice a day (75mg in the morning, 75 mg at night. My pills are 25 mg size, so I take 3 at a time).

Thanks Nakamova! I looked on my bottle and it's not the XR kind. My pills are scored, I'll call the Dr and see if I can take 1/2 my dose, twice a day.
